Job Purpose: As a Journey Line Worker, you'll be at the forefront of installing, repairing, and maintaining our city's electric utility system. From constructing high and low voltage electrical wiring systems to responding to emergency calls, you'll play a vital role in keeping the lights on and the community connected.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: In this electrifying role, you'll:
- Power Up: Construct, repair, and maintain electrical wiring systems and equipment, including motors, transformers, and street lights, ensuring the reliable operation of our electric utility system.
- Reach New Heights: Set and remove utility poles, operate specialized vehicles such as bucket or derrick trucks, and locate underground utilities with precision and skill.
- Troubleshoot: Respond to trouble and emergency calls related to power outages, downed wires, accidents, and weather-related conditions, providing swift and effective solutions to restore service.
- Document and Maintain: Keep detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, and inventory logs, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Collaborate: Work closely with team members, city employees, vendors, and contractors to coordinate projects, exchange information, and resolve issues efficiently.
- Lead by Example: Provide guidance and support to assigned personnel, demonstrating leadership and teamwork in every task.
Required Qualifications: To illuminate this role, you'll need:
- Educational Background: High school diploma or equivalent, coupled with specialized training in the electrical trade, and a strong understanding of electric code requirements.
- Experience: One to three years of experience in electrical construction and maintenance, with a demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment and perform complex troubleshooting tasks.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using specialized vehicles, tools, and equipment, along with the ability to read and understand manuals and technical documentation.
- Safety Focus: Knowledge of safety precautions and protocols involved in working with energized lines and hazardous conditions, ensuring the well-being of yourself and your team.
- Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications: While not mandatory, the following qualifications are desirable:
- Leadership Experience: Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role, providing guidance and support to team members in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications: Possession of relevant certifications, such as a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for specialized vehicles or equipment operation.
