Job Summary: The Clinical Supervisor is a working, frontline leadership position responsible for providing hands-on clinical supervision and oversight within the patient care area. This role is expected to be actively present on the clinical floor, engaged with staff, and proactive in managing daily operations. The Clinical Supervisor leads by example, supports patient care, addresses workflow and staffing needs, coaches staff, and serves as a resource to the clinical team while supporting the Clinical Manager.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides visible, hands-on leadership on the clinical floor, proactively managing daily workflow, staffing, assignments, patient flow, and operational issues while working alongside staff as needed.
  • Maintains organization, structure, discipline, productivity, and accountability within the clinical environment; identifies and resolves routine issues promptly using sound judgment and initiative.
  • Provides staff guidance, coaching, mentoring, training, and performance feedback in collaboration with the Clinical Manager; monitors performance, attendance, organization, and accountability and addresses or escalates concerns appropriately.
  • Ensures compliance with clinical policies, procedures, safety and infection control standards, and regulatory requirements while promoting quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promotes effective communication, teamwork, professionalism, and a positive work environment; serves as a liaison between clinical staff, physicians, and management.
  • Oversees clinical resources, including supplies and equipment, to support efficient daily operations.
  • Provides immediate clinical leadership during emergencies and situations requiring timely direction.
  • Models and reinforces the professionalism, accountability, organization, discipline, work ethic, and patient-centered care expected of all clinical staff.

Role Expectation -

This is a working Clinical Supervisor role, not primarily an administrative or observational position. The Supervisor is expected to be on the floor, hands-on, organized, disciplined, proactive, and actively managing the team and clinical environment throughout the day. Strong performance requires the ability to take initiative, maintain discipline, organization, accountability, manage priorities, and lead by example while ensuring quality patient care and efficient daily operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting (up to 50 pounds occasionally) while performing patient care, equipment management, and administrative duties. Must handle and maneuver patients and heavy objects as needed.


VISUAL, HEARING, AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Requires sustained visual attention to read charts, monitor patient conditions, review data, and maintain accurate records. Ability to discern subtle visual cues in patient appearance and clinical environments.
  • Must be able to hear and respond to patient needs, team communication, alarms, and other clinical signals. Clear verbal communication is essential for patient care and staff coordination.
  • Requires high-level cognitive skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, multitasking, prioritization, and conflict resolution. Must manage stress in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment while maintaining professional judgment and patient-centered focus.

Travel Requirements: Travel will be required and may include all PIB locations.


Required Hours: Available for shifts Monday through Friday and weekend rotation of on call.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
  • Two to three years of clinical management and/or supervisory experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
