Wealth Advisor
Job Description
Wealth Advisor
Richmond or Charlottesville, Virginia
Full-Time | Hybrid
Salary Range: $100,000–$150,000 + Bonus Potential
Reports to: Director of Financial Planning & Tax
Heritage Wealth Advisors is seeking an experienced Wealth Advisor to work with ultra-high-net-worth families and institutions on the complex decisions that extend beyond investment management.
As part of our multi-family office, you’ll work across financial planning, tax, investments, estate planning, philanthropy, and family office matters, bringing together the right expertise around each client.
This is an opportunity for an advisor who enjoys sophisticated planning, values long-term relationships, and wants to understand the full picture of a family’s financial life.
The Work
- Own and deepen client relationships, serving as the primary advisor for assigned families and a key advisor on complex multi-family office relationships.
- Lead sophisticated planning conversations across cash flow, tax, investments, estate planning, philanthropy, and family office needs, connecting decisions across disciplines rather than addressing them in isolation.
- Turn complexity into clear recommendations, helping clients understand their options, tradeoffs, and next steps.
- Provide tax planning, compliance, and preparation, including tax projections and preparation of individual, trust, partnership, nonprofit, gift, and related tax returns as part of an integrated approach to client planning.
- Coordinate the full advisory picture, working closely with Heritage specialists as well as clients’ attorneys, CPAs, trustees, business managers, and other professional advisors.
- Review and advance planning strategies, including estate documents, balance sheets, cash flow needs, trust and gifting considerations, and other multi-generational planning matters.
- Stay ahead of client needs, taking ownership from initial question through resolution and ensuring thoughtful, timely follow-through.
- Contribute to business development and firm growth by building relationships with prospective clients and centers of influence, identifying opportunities to deepen existing relationships, and representing Heritage in the professional community.
- Contribute beyond your own relationships by mentoring associates, sharing expertise, and helping improve how Heritage serves complex families.
The Advisor We’re Looking For
- You embrace complexity, connecting tax, planning, investments, estate strategy, and family priorities to deliver thoughtful, practical advice.
- You build meaningful client relationships, translating technical considerations into clear guidance and confident conversations.
- You take ownership, bringing sound judgment, discretion, and consistent follow-through to both client needs and planning opportunities.
- You collaborate naturally, working across specialists and professional advisors to see and solve the full picture.
- You contribute to growth, building relationships and identifying opportunities to deepen client and professional connections.
- You stay curious, motivated by sophisticated work and the opportunity to continually deepen your expertise.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field.
- CFP®, CPA, or EA designation.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in financial planning, tax, investment advisory, family office, or a related client advisory role.
- Experience managing client relationships and coordinating complex financial matters across multiple disciplines.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn technical information into practical recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Sound judgment and discretion with confidential family and financial matters.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Familiarity with financial planning, CRM, and productivity platforms; experience with eMoney and Tamarac is beneficial.
Tax experience: Because tax planning is an important part of Heritage's integrated approach, candidates should have meaningful exposure to tax planning and/or preparation. Experience with individual, trust, partnership, nonprofit, gift, and related returns is particularly valuable.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000–$150,000, based on experience, credentials, and capabilities, with additional bonus potential.
Heritage also offers:
- Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance.
- 401(k) with profit sharing.
- Financial support for professional development, certifications, continuing education, and leadership development.
- Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
- A flexible hybrid work environment.
- Parental and family leave.
- Access to Heritage resources, internal expertise, professional networks, and thought leadership opportunities.
