JOB PURPOSE:

This position is primarily responsible for leading, coordinating, and completing shipping activities at the Crossroads Facility. The Shipping Lead will be an essential position in completing and monitoring shipping procedures, to ensure that all product is properly shipped in an accurate and efficient manner. The Shipping Lead will ultimately be responsible for directing the Shipping Team towards timely and accurate shipment of product out of the warehouse facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. This position requires the Shipping Lead to physically report to work in order to effectuate the below responsibilities. Duties apply to shipping activities at Distribution 2000, Inc. Crossroad’s Facility; travel may be required between facilities if backfilling other roles.

  • Ensures all Shipping Team members are properly trained and follow all department procedures.
  • Monitors Shipping Team members’ compliance with all company policies.
  • Conducts training for new Shipping Team members, as applicable, follows up with new team members on ongoing basis to ensure team members are grasping operational functions, company procedures and policies, and are accomplishing tasks in productive and efficient manner.
  • Complies with and enforces all requisite food defense/safety and quality programs (including but not limited to D2’s all applicable Good Distribution Practices).
  • Responsible for all order checks and outbound loads.
  • Verifies trailer inspections are completed for each load.
  • Confirms all loads are loaded correctly by checking the following:
    • All orders accounted for and correct;
    • Load quality; ensuring the load is in acceptable condition, free of damage;
    • Correct customer;
    • Correct trailer.
  • Coordinates with Shipping Team to confirm all loading paper work is filled our correctly.
  • Verifies all seals are placed securely onto the trailer by the loader, or designee.
  • Oversees correct and timely staging of all orders.
  • Assists Shipping Team with physical loading of trailers.
  • Responsible for dock safety and security, locking and securing all dock doors.
  • Monitors conditions of dock area including sanitation, housekeeping, dock door/plate operation, and safe staging of customer product.
  • Completes dock check at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Responsible for checking all equipment in and out, and verifying all equipment is charged at the end of the shift.
  • Responsible for consistent and timely flushing of aisles, delegating to available staff members.
  • Monitors and improves all key shipping functions to assure that they are accurate and timely.
  • Works with key personnel to effectively implement process improvements to operational procedures in an effort to proactively optimize overall shipping accuracy and maintain the highest possible productivity levels.
  • Enhances department and organization integrity, by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Measures and reports on Shipping Team members’ performance, tracking and documenting loading errors.
  • Keeps area maintained in an organized, neat manner, free of dirt and clutter.
  • Monitors and reports daily detention to management to identify trends, and suggests ways to improve operation to minimize detention.
  • Monitors daily production and outstanding tasks for department.
  • Backfills other operational positions as may be necessary and required from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma, or general equivalency diploma; 2-5 years of distribution, warehouse and shipping experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Forklift experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to management and other employees of the organization.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and G-Suite (Google, including email and sheets).
