Desired qualifications:
- Hold special education teaching certification (or eligibility for DC reciprocity via Virginia or Maryland certification)
- Experience instructing at the middle school or upper elementary level
- Deep understanding of IEP development, compliance, and progress monitoring
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to promote differentiated instruction and support diverse learners
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction to 6th grade students with varying needs
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in compliance with regulations
- Work in partnership with families, related service providers, and general education teachers to promote student success
- Monitor and document student progress; adjust strategies as needed
- Foster an inclusive, encouraging atmosphere where every student’s voice is valued
