Job Description
A school district in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is seeking a qualified Travel Special Education Teacher for a full‑time, school‑based contract. Responsibilities
Provide direct instruction and educational support to students with mild/moderate or moderate/severe disabilities
Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and Alabama state regulations
Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families
Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet individual student needs
Conduct assessments, collect data, and monitor progress toward IEP goals
Participate in and facilitate IEP meetings while ensuring procedural compliance
Maintain accurate documentation and student records
Support a structured, inclusive, and positive learning environment
Adapt quickly to district procedures and school expectations while maintaining high‑quality instruction
Qualifications
Active Alabama Special Education teaching license or ability to obtain through reciprocity
Appropriate Special Education endorsement based on assignment
Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and district clearances
Willingness to travel for the duration of the assignment
Licensing and credentialing support may be available for eligible candidates
Education
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field
Experience
Previous school‑based or special education experience preferred
Travel educator experience preferred but not required
New graduates with appropriate credentials are encouraged to apply

Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to adapt quickly to new school environments
Excellent classroom management and instructional differentiation abilities
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Commitment to supporting diverse student populations
Work Hours
Monday–Friday
8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Approximately 37–40 hours per week
