Job Description

A school district in Columbia, South Carolina is seeking a qualified Special Education Teacher for a full‑time, school‑based contract. This position serves high school students and offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative educational environment with ongoing professional and administrative support. Candidates with a passion for inclusive instruction, transition planning, and IEP‑driven teaching are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction and educational support to high school students with mild/moderate or moderate/severe disabilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and South Carolina state regulations
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families
  • Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet individual student needs
  • Support students in developing academic, social, behavioral, and independent living skills
  • Assist with transition planning to prepare students for postsecondary education, employment, and independent living opportunities
  • Conduct assessments, collect data, and monitor progress toward IEP goals
  • Participate in and facilitate IEP meetings while ensuring procedural compliance
  • Maintain accurate documentation and student records
  • Support a structured, inclusive, and positive learning environment

Qualifications

  • Active South Carolina Special Education teaching license required
  • Appropriate endorsement based on assignment
  • Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and district clearances
  • Licensing and credentialing support may be available for eligible candidates

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field

Experience

  • Previous school‑based or special education experience preferred
  • Experience working with high school students strongly preferred
  • New graduates with appropriate credentials are encouraged to apply

Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent organizational and documentation abilities
  • Knowledge of transition planning and secondary special education services
  • Commitment to supporting diverse student populations

Work Hours

  • Monday–Friday
  • 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Approximately 37–40 hours per week
