What You'll Do

As a Certified Medication Aide in Memory Care at Epworth Villa, you'll do more than safely administer medications—you'll become a familiar, trusted presence for residents living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Patience, consistency, compassion, and the ability to recognize subtle changes are especially important in this role.

Working alongside licensed nurses and the interdisciplinary care team, you'll help create a calm, supportive environment where each resident is treated with dignity and receives care tailored to their individual needs, preferences, and abilities.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to physician orders and state regulations.
  • Provide medication assistance using a patient, reassuring approach that considers the unique communication and behavioral needs of residents living with dementia.
  • Accurately document medication administration, resident observations, and changes in condition.
  • Measure and record vital signs as assigned.
  • Recognize and promptly communicate changes in a resident's physical condition, behavior, mood, appetite, sleep patterns, or level of engagement.
  • Use person-centered, dementia-sensitive approaches when residents experience confusion, anxiety, agitation, or difficulty communicating their needs.
  • Build trusting relationships by learning residents' individual routines, preferences, personalities, and abilities.
  • Maintain medication carts, supplies, and work areas in a clean, secure, and organized manner.
  • Follow infection prevention practices and all medication safety protocols.
  • Partner with residents, families, nurses, and other team members to provide consistent, compassionate care.
  • Help create a Memory Care environment where residents feel safe, respected, valued, and connected.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who understands that providing excellent Memory Care requires patience, empathy, consistency, and a genuine desire to connect with residents as individuals.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Current Oklahoma Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (American Heart Association preferred).
  • Previous experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia is strongly preferred.
  • The ability to remain calm, patient, and compassionate when responding to dementia-related behaviors or communication challenges.
  • Strong observation skills and the ability to recognize subtle changes in a resident's condition or behavior.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly when administering and documenting medications.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A dependable work ethic and a genuine passion for helping older adults maintain dignity, comfort, and quality of life.
