Job Description
The Revit Drafter will contribute to a wide variety of projects, including residential homes, apartments, condos, industrial and commercial buildings, retail spaces, restaurants, fire stations, and religious facilities. Working in a professional office alongside more than ten engineering professionals, this role offers direct guidance and mentorship from engineers and designers, as well as opportunities for long-term career growth and increasing responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing/piping engineers and designers to develop accurate BIM models, single-line diagrams, power plans, lighting plans, details, and other design specifications.
- Create and refine Revit-based drawings and models that support electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and architectural design requirements across diverse project types.
- Perform design-related calculations and assist in sizing equipment to ensure systems meet project performance, safety, and code requirements.
- Conduct BIM clash detection and resolution to identify and correct conflicts between building systems, improving constructability and coordination.
- Work both independently and as part of a collaborative project team to meet deadlines, maintain quality standards, and support project goals.
- Provide oversight, training, and mentoring to less experienced designers, helping them develop technical skills and understanding of BIM workflows.
- Communicate directly with licensed engineers, as well as company leadership, to clarify design intent, incorporate feedback, and support project delivery.
- Support a diverse portfolio of projects, adapting drawings and models to different building types, sizes, and complexity levels.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Revit with over 3 years of hands-on experience creating BIM models and construction documentation.
- Experience in electrical, power distribution, low voltage systems, HVAC, piping, plumbing, and/or architectural design within building projects.
- Strong drafting skills with the ability to translate design concepts into clear, accurate drawings and models.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for preparing and modifying technical drawings and details.
- Ability to perform basic design calculations and assist with equipment sizing in coordination with engineering staff.
- Experience working on a diverse range of project types, including residential, commercial, industrial, and specialty facilities.
- Effective communication skills for direct interaction with licensed engineers, designers, and company leadership.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, coordinated BIM models and drawings.
- Capability to conduct BIM clash detection and participate in resolving conflicts between disciplines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or architectural drafting using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with MEP design processes and coordination among multiple building systems.
- Comfort working on projects ranging from approximately $1 million to $10 million in value.
- Interest in long-term career development, with a desire to take on increasing responsibility and advance into higher-level roles.
- Ability to mentor junior designers and contribute to a supportive, learning-focused team culture.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset, with a focus on productivity and quality.
- Adaptability to different building types and design requirements, including residential, industrial, commercial, retail, and specialized facilities.
Work Environment
This role is based in a professional office setting that combines private offices for leadership with an open, collaborative production space for designers and engineers. The team currently includes approximately 14 employees—11 engineers (3 licensed), 2 drafters, and administrative support—with plans to add additional staff. The culture is easygoing and friendly, with a strong focus on productivity, a positive work environment, and long-term employee development. Typical attire includes polos during the week and T-shirts on Fridays, reflecting a relaxed yet professional atmosphere. After a probationary and training period, team members may work from home one day per week. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boca Raton, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.25/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
