Robert Half Management Resources is recruiting for an Interim Tax Preparer to support our well-established Los Angeles-based CPA firm client through the October 15th filing deadline. The Interim Senior Tax Preparer will be responsible for preparing complex individual income tax returns, working closely with the firm's principal CPA, who serves as the primary reviewer. This is a hands-on role best suited for a tax professional who can quickly integrate into an established workflow and contribute with minimal training.
The position is fully onsite and offers flexible scheduling. The firm values collaboration and maintains a team-oriented environment where questions and communication are encouraged.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare sophisticated federal and state individual tax filings, with a strong focus on Form 1040 returns for clients with complex financial situations.
• Review client records, organizers, and supporting workpapers to accurately interpret tax information and enter data into the firm’s preparation process.
• Handle returns that include multiple streams of income, pass-through activity such as K-1 reporting, rental real estate matters, itemized deductions, and ownership in closely held businesses.
• Complete filings that involve multi-state reporting requirements while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance across jurisdictions.
• Address review feedback promptly by revising returns, resolving open items, and incorporating requested updates from the principal reviewer.
• Manage a steady volume of tax work while safeguarding confidential information and meeting critical filing and extension-related deadlines.
• Work within the firm’s established documentation methods, including printed tax organizers, input sheets, and related supporting materials.
• Provide support for additional tax assignments and related projects as needed through the extended filing cycle.
• At least five years of recent tax preparation experience in a public accounting or tax firm setting.• Demonstrated expertise preparing complex individual income tax returns, especially Form 1040 filings.
• Strong background working with high-net-worth taxpayers, rental property reporting, K-1 activity, and multi-state individual tax matters.
• Ability to become productive quickly and work independently with minimal training or supervision.
• High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail when handling large volumes of time-sensitive work.
• Experience with tax preparation software such as Lacerte is preferred; familiarity with CCH Axcess or ProSystem fx Tax is also valued.
• Exposure to bookkeeping or broader accounting functions is helpful, though not required.
