Quality Technician
Job Description
The Quality Technician plays a key role in ensuring that products meet rigorous quality standards within a certified Quality Management System. This position focuses on managing product quality, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting cross-functional teams in design, manufacturing, and assembly environments. The role requires a strong engineering background, hands-on experience with quality tools and measurement equipment, and proven leadership capabilities in supervising and developing quality assurance staff.
Responsibilities- Manage product quality within a certified Quality Management System such as ISO 9001, TS, or AS9100, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and procedures.
- Lead and perform root cause analysis for quality issues related to design, manufacturing, assembly, materials, and processes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using DMAIC and other problem-solving methodologies to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and improve process efficiency.
- Supervise, coach, train, and lead a group of more than 10 quality inspectors and QA staff, providing clear direction, feedback, and support.
- Develop, maintain, and audit quality systems, including FMEA, Control Plans, and related documentation, to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
- Conduct and support internal and external quality audits, ensuring that findings are documented, communicated, and addressed in a timely manner.
- Use quality measurement and test equipment such as micrometers, gauges, voltmeters, hand tools, and shadowgraph systems to inspect and verify product conformity.
- Prepare and write quality-related reports and records, including QRRS and other technical documentation, to communicate findings and recommendations clearly.
- Perform statistical analysis of quality data using advanced Excel and other tools to identify trends, monitor performance, and support data-driven decisions.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, production, purchasing, sales, and other stakeholders in cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and support new product introductions.
- Support large OEM customers by meeting their quality requirements, addressing concerns, and providing timely and accurate quality information.
- Apply a strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) to interpret drawings and specifications and ensure products meet dimensional requirements.
- Organize and prioritize workloads, delegate tasks effectively, and manage time to meet project deadlines and production schedules.
- Contribute to the development, programming, and optimization of measurement processes, including calypso and related inspection programs, to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in quality engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 3+ years managing product quality within a certified Quality Management System such as ISO 9001, TS, or AS9100.
- 3–5 years of quality engineering experience with direct involvement in manufacturing or assembly environments.
- 1–3 years of quality supervisory experience leading QA teams or quality inspectors.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
- Strong experience with root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Hands-on experience applying DMAIC and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge and practical experience with quality systems, audits, FMEA, and Control Plans.
- Proficiency with statistical analysis tools and techniques for quality data.
- Experience supervising, coaching, training, and leading quality inspectors and QA staff.
- Strong troubleshooting skills related to design, manufacturing, assembly, materials, and process quality issues.
- Ability to use quality measurement and test equipment, including micrometers, gauges, voltmeters, hand tools, and shadowgraph systems.
- Advanced Excel skills, including reporting and data analysis.
- Strong technical writing skills for preparing clear and accurate quality documentation and reports.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting quality findings.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams with engineering, production, purchasing, sales, and other stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- High mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
- Proven leadership, organization, delegation, and time-management abilities.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred.
- Automotive industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting large OEM customers is strongly preferred.
- Experience with calypso programming or similar measurement programming tools.
- Experience writing QRRS and other structured quality reports and records.

This role operates within a manufacturing and engineering environment that is governed by certified Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, TS, or AS9100. The Quality Technician works closely with engineering, production, purchasing, and sales teams, frequently interacting with large OEM customers. The position involves regular use of precision measurement and test equipment, including micrometers, gauges, voltmeters, hand tools, shadowgraph systems, and computer-based inspection and data analysis tools. Work typically takes place in a combination of office and production floor settings, requiring attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality procedures, and comfort with technical documentation and data-driven decision-making.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Merritt Island, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.25 - $33.65/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
