Job Description
The Trailer Technician A is a high-level role focused on advanced maintenance, repair, and inspection of semi-trailers to ensure they remain safe, efficient, and roadworthy. This position handles complex mechanical, electrical, and structural issues, performs major repairs on a variety of trailer types, and provides expert recommendations on trailer upkeep. The role requires in-depth technical knowledge of trailer systems, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, safety-sensitive environment.
Pay: $24 - $33/hr + overtime available + sign on/retention bonus
Shift: First (1st) shift: 7:00am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday
Responsibilities
- Independently diagnose and repair a wide range of trailer components, including electrical wiring, roofs, panels, upper couplers, and rear door frames.
- Troubleshoot and repair all aspects of air braking systems, including anti-lock braking systems (ABS).
- Troubleshoot and repair spring and air ride suspensions, including height control valves and manual and automatic dump valves.
- Complete axle wheel assemblies using proper torque procedures, including correct installation of hub and drum assemblies, bearings, seals, and races.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring systems, including all exterior and interior lights, 7-way receptacles, interior lighting, and switches.
- Diagnose and repair body and undercarriage damage on all trailer types, from small panel replacements to complex structural repairs.
- Perform diagnosis and maintenance on refrigeration units as required.
- Conduct preventative maintenance, including maintaining proper oil levels in hub caps, ensuring correct air pressure in tires, greasing all fittings, adjusting S-cam brakes, and performing minor light repairs and replacements.
- Provide guidance, support, and on-the-job training to Level B and C technicians and trainees.
- Offer expertise on complex repairs and recommend long-term solutions for recurring trailer issues.
- Complete work orders in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Accurately document all work performed and parts used in repair and maintenance activities.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain and enhance technical skills.
- Adhere to all safety standards and SOPs during repair activities, including consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and hearing protection.
Essential Skills
- Mechanical expertise and advanced technical skills in trailer maintenance and repair.
- Strong understanding of tools and specialized equipment used in trailer diagnostics and repair.
- Proven ability to independently perform complex trailer repairs.
- Advanced knowledge of trailer systems, including brakes, suspensions, electrical, and structural components.
- Strong understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations related to trailers.
- Basic proficiency with computer systems for work order completion and documentation.
- Demonstrated safety awareness in a repair shop and outdoor environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
- Five or more years of trailer maintenance and repair experience and/or relevant training.
- Experience in the trailer or transportation industry.
- Hands-on experience with electrical systems, brake systems, hydraulics, welding, diesel-related components, and axle assemblies.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on trailers and related equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Advanced carpentry skills for trailer body and structural repairs.
- Advanced welding and fabrication skills for structural and component repair.
- Experience with automotive and diesel systems related to trailer operations.
- Familiarity with refrigeration unit maintenance and repair.
- Ability to train and mentor less-experienced technicians and trainees.
- Comfort working with documentation systems and following detailed SOPs.

Work Environment
This role operates in a repair shop and outdoor environment with regular exposure to varying weather conditions. You work around loud noise, vibration, dust, grease or oil, and fumes or airborne particles, using appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and hearing protection. The position involves hands-on use of specialized tools and equipment to perform mechanical, electrical, and structural repairs on semi-trailers, requiring comfort with a physically active, industrial setting.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of West Bridgewater, MA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $68640.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
