Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer researches, develops, designs, sustains, and tests mechanical and electromechanical products and systems related to commercial HVAC equipment. This role also directs and coordinates activities involved in the fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, ensuring they meet engineering standards, customer specifications, and applicable regulations.
Responsibilities- Research and analyze data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of designs and applications.
- Perform mechanical design of heat transfer systems, including chilled water systems, air- and water-cooled refrigerant systems, and fluid pumping systems, in accordance with engineering design standards and customer specifications.
- Develop comprehensive engineering documentation, including bills of materials, piping drawings, sheet metal drawings, assembly drawings, installation drawings, and refrigeration drawings.
- Perform basic structural, load, and heat transfer analysis and calculations to support design decisions.
- Review products to confirm they are manufactured in accordance with NEC, listing reports, and other applicable standards.
- Support the development of marketing materials for sales literature and custom applications by providing technical input and product expertise.
- Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to mitigate system malfunctions and improve performance.
- Prepare operation, maintenance, and repair materials to support products throughout their lifecycle.
- Provide documentation and technical support to ensure operational testing conforms to functional specifications, customer requirements, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist test facilities with the design of control apparatus, equipment, and test methods.
- Perform other related engineering duties as assigned.
- 2–5 years of on-the-job CAD experience, with a strong background in 3D modeling.
- Demonstrated individual contributor experience, including ownership of projects, products, and designs.
- Experience with the design of common mechanical assembly processes, such as hardware selection, fasteners, riveting, and welding.
- Experience designing for manufacturing environments and understanding manufacturability considerations.
- ERP/MRP experience, including bills of materials, setup, material management, and routers.
- Interest in and understanding of commercial HVAC and heat transfer systems, including refrigerant systems and chilled water HVAC, CRAC/CRAH systems.
- Mechanical engineering and mechanical design expertise.
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with sheet metal enclosure design.
- Refrigeration system design experience, particularly with CRAC/CRAH systems (preferred).
- Understanding of common materials used in sheet metal enclosures (preferred).
- Experience with components such as fans, compressors, valves, and heat exchange coils (evaporator or condenser).
- Finite element analysis (FEA) experience.
- Product lifecycle management (PLM) experience.
- Product data management (PDM) experience.
- Experience with test stand development.
- Strong interest in working within a high-growth environment with opportunities for upward mobility.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
