Job Description

The Mechanic supports continuous production operations by performing both emergency and scheduled maintenance on packaging and production equipment. This role sets up machinery for production runs, troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues, and completes repairs that keep equipment running safely and efficiently. The Mechanic reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders, documents all work performed, and consistently follows OSHA safety and health regulations while working across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs on production equipment during active production to minimize downtime.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance services and repairs on production equipment and machines in accordance with preventive maintenance plans.
  • Prepare and set up machinery for scheduled production runs, ensuring all equipment is properly configured and ready for operation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on packaging and production systems and equipment.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical documentation, and work orders to determine required maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Document all tasks performed on work orders, preventive maintenance forms, work logs, and other required records accurately and promptly.
  • Comply with OSHA safety and health rules and follow all facility safety policies and procedures while performing maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance mechanics and technicians to complete repairs efficiently and share knowledge to improve team capability.
  • Move throughout the facility to service equipment wherever it is located, including different production areas and lines.
  • Support production by ensuring equipment reliability through proactive maintenance and timely response to equipment issues.

Essential Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair production and packaging equipment.
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a production environment, auto body shop, or other maintenance-related setting.
  • Ability to perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, and technical documentation.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience documenting maintenance activities on work orders, preventive maintenance forms, or work logs.
  • Understanding of and commitment to OSHA safety and health rules and safe work practices.
  • Capability to work on 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical school training in mechanics, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Welding experience is highly beneficial for equipment repair and fabrication tasks.
  • Experience as a helper, auto mechanic, maintenance mechanic, maintenance technician, production mechanic, or packaging mechanic is advantageous.
  • Ability to learn and expand electrical skills on the job, building on existing mechanical experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively with other maintenance personnel.
  • Comfort working across multiple production lines and adapting to different types of equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of White Marsh, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.70 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
