The ideal candidate brings strong analytical judgment, a solid background in construction or real estate accounting, and the ability to work independently while partnering with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities for the Senior Project Accountant - Contract Only

• Oversee the financial performance of assigned development and construction projects by tracking budget activity, committed costs, contingency usage, and change order impact.

• Examine project budgets in detail to confirm approved amounts are properly reflected in internal records and aligned with current project activity.

• Conduct thorough reviews of construction draw submissions, evaluating requested funding against progress, prior disbursements, supporting documentation, and available budget.

• Investigate unusual spending patterns, unsupported charges, and potential cost overruns, then coordinate with project stakeholders to resolve exceptions before funding is released.

• Work closely with Development, Construction, Accounting, and Treasury teams to address questions related to invoices, coding, accruals, reconciliations, and project-level financial reporting.

• Support capital deployment activities by communicating funding needs, expected timing, source details, and other required backup for active projects.

• Reconcile differences among internal accounting data, partner reporting, approved budgets, and draw packages, ensuring corrections are completed accurately and promptly.

• Apply established financial control procedures across the project portfolio while identifying opportunities to strengthen consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in project accounting processes.

• Collaborate with internal partners and external development contacts on financial matters affecting project execution, funding, and reporting.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, Business, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• At least 7 years of experience in project accounting, construction accounting, development finance, commercial real estate, or a closely related area.
• Demonstrated knowledge of project budgeting, construction cost tracking, draw review, and project-level financial controls.
• Experience supporting month-end close activities and resolving accounting issues tied to project costs, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Strong Excel skills and hands-on experience with accounting platforms or project financial systems.
• Proven ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and make sound decisions with limited oversight.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to coordinate across cross-functional teams and external business partners.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
