Job Description
This role focuses on the mechanical disassembly of decommissioned cargo aircraft to recover, inspect, and remove usable components for storage and resale. Technicians work on multiple aircraft over extended project timelines and handle a variety of mechanical tasks related to aircraft structures, engines, and systems.
Responsibilities
- Disassemble decommissioned cargo aircraft in a systematic and safe manner to recover usable parts.
- Identify and locate mechanical, structural, and system components on the aircraft in accordance with project requirements.
- Inspect components for condition and usability prior to removal and prepare them for storage and resale.
- Mechanically remove aircraft components using appropriate hand tools and equipment.
- Perform tasks such as engine removals and brake or axle changes as part of the teardown process.
- Follow detailed instructions and procedures for aircraft teardown to maintain consistency and quality.
- Use strong mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot removal challenges and adapt tools and methods as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around the aircraft during disassembly activities.
- Comply with all airport and site safety regulations, including access and badge requirements.
- Coordinate daily work activities with team members to ensure timely progress on each aircraft.
- Work full shifts from early morning through evening as needed to meet project timelines.
Essential Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on mechanical skills.
- Proficiency using hand tools for mechanical disassembly and component removal.
- Experience in aviation maintenance, automotive repair, or similar mechanical fields.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an airport security badge.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to follow mechanical procedures and safety guidelines accurately.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with automotive or farm machinery is highly transferable to this role.
- Experience in engine removals, including working with large mechanical assemblies.
- Experience performing brake and axle changes on vehicles or machinery.
- Familiarity with aircraft components or aviation environments is beneficial.
- Comfort working on large, complex mechanical systems in an industrial or transportation setting.

Work Environment
Work takes place outdoors at an airport facility in Wilmington, Ohio, primarily around decommissioned cargo aircraft. Technicians work Monday through Friday, starting at 7:00 AM, with regular shifts extending into the evening around 7:00 PM to support ongoing teardown activities. The environment involves working on and around large aircraft in varying weather conditions, using hand tools and mechanical equipment in an industrial airfield setting. Compliance with airport access rules and security badge requirements is necessary, and attire should be appropriate for outdoor, physically demanding mechanical work.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilmington, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
