This Pharmacy Technician role focuses on accurately and efficiently filling prescription requests in a high-volume, automated refill environment. Working under the supervision of a Pharmacist, you will prepare, package, and distribute medications in a fast-paced production setting while maintaining a continuous workflow to meet daily production goals. You will perform repetitive tasks with acute attention to detail, and you must be able to work productively both independently and as part of a team to ensure patient safety and privacy.

Responsibilities
  • Manually fill prescription vials with prescribed tablets and capsules, reading computer-generated screens to locate merchandise on labeled shelves and verifying the correct size and strength of medications.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations to count or determine the appropriate number of units needed to fill prescriptions accurately.
  • Replenish medications in automated dispensing cells to full capacity by opening large quantities of bottles and cases, using a handheld scanner to scan product barcodes, and entering expiration dates and lot numbers into the computer application.
  • Maintain a high level of focus while working with medications to avoid cross-contamination and perform quality assurance checks to identify and remove expired or damaged products.
  • Complete weekly cycle counts as assigned by the Inventory department, auditing cell inventory and counting products in primary and secondary bin locations.
  • Assist with researching and identifying root causes of inventory discrepancies and support corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare cold chain and specialty prescriptions, following special handling and packing requirements to maintain product integrity and safety.
  • Assist with packing and shipping prescriptions, ensuring all orders are prepared accurately and on time for delivery.
  • Understand and comply with federal and state HIPAA regulations and standard pharmacy procedures to protect patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate problem-resolution skills by recognizing issues, addressing them appropriately, and escalating concerns to leadership when necessary.
  • Manage time effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment to meet daily production goals and mandatory overtime requirements.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent education or experience.
  • Active California Pharmacy Technician license.
  • At least 1 year of pharmacy retail or customer service experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, excluding externships and training.
  • Experience filling prescriptions and working with pharmacy workflows and procedures.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to identify root causes and evaluate possible solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to spot errors and issues early and accurately.
  • Sound decision-making skills, including the ability to choose the best course of action under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills to clearly convey issues, updates, and solutions to colleagues and leadership.
  • Escalation management skills, including knowing when and how to escalate problems appropriately.
  • Strong time management skills to resolve issues promptly and meet production and overtime requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations for counting and verifying medication quantities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a repetitive, production-oriented environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • PTCB national pharmacy technician certification preferred.
  • Experience working with automated dispensing systems and handheld barcode scanners.
  • Comfort working with cold chain and specialty medications that require special handling and packing.
  • Familiarity with inventory management practices, including cycle counts and discrepancy research.
  • Ability to maintain focus and accuracy while performing repetitive tasks.
  • Reliable transportation to be onsite as required by the work schedule.
  • Interest in potential temp-to-hire opportunities and long-term career growth within a pharmacy environment.
Work Environment

This is an onsite role based in West Sacramento, CA, within a high-volume, automated refill pharmacy production environment. You will work in a fast-paced setting that requires sustained focus, repetitive tasks, and close adherence to safety and quality standards. The primary work schedule is Monday through Friday, with Monday and Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Candidates must be prepared for a schedule change after approximately 4–6 weeks depending on business needs, which may transition to a Sunday–Thursday shift, with Sundays typically from around 8:00–8:30 a.m. to 4:30–5:00 p.m. Mandatory overtime is a regular requirement of the role. You will use automated dispensing cells, handheld barcode scanners, and computer applications to manage prescriptions, inventory, and quality checks. The environment emphasizes high employee engagement, community involvement, and opportunities for temp-to-hire conversion, along with access to various employee programs and events. Attire is typical for a professional pharmacy production setting, suitable for handling medications and working in a busy, onsite environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Sacramento, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
