This role focuses on safely handling and moving large steel materials within a busy industrial warehouse. You operate stand-up and counterbalance forklifts, support crane operations, and assist with shipping, receiving, and inventory tasks. You help ensure steel beams and related materials are accurately picked, loaded, unloaded, and staged for production, contributing directly to efficient and safe warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a stand-up forklift to pick materials from shelving and move steel beams throughout the warehouse.
  • Handle and move 30-foot-long steel beams safely and efficiently in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Use counterbalance forklifts to load, unload, and transport materials on and off trucks and within the facility.
  • Supply cranes with materials for production and coordinate material flow to support processing operations.
  • Train on and operate a remote overhead crane when needed to move and position steel beams.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving activities, including unloading trucks, checking in materials, and staging outgoing orders.
  • Perform order picking and material handling to ensure the correct steel products are prepared for cutting, bending, grinding, and transport.
  • Support inventory control by tracking materials, performing basic data entry, and updating inventory records using Excel and Outlook.
  • Help prepare, move, clean, and cut steel using a band saw when required, working closely with saw operators and production staff.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily material handling tasks.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Work 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) Monday–Friday during training, then transition to permanent 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.).
  • Participate in random drug testing as required by company policy.

Essential Skills

  • Experience operating counterbalance forklifts for loading, unloading, and transporting materials.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Experience in heavy industrial work, preferably involving steel or similar materials.
  • Familiarity with overhead crane operations or willingness to train on remote overhead crane use.
  • Experience with shipping and receiving processes, including unloading trucks and handling incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Material handling and general labor experience in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
  • Basic Excel and Outlook skills to support inventory tracking, data entry, and communication.
  • Inventory and order picking experience, including inventory control and data entry.
  • Strong safety awareness and ability to follow detailed safety procedures in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Reliable work ethic and ability to perform physically demanding tasks for the duration of the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working specifically with steel materials in a processing or manufacturing environment.
  • Comfort operating a remote overhead crane to move and position large steel beams.
  • Willingness to assist with band saw operations, including preparing, moving, cleaning, and cutting steel as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with production, shipping, and receiving staff.
  • Good attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new tasks and equipment.
  • Experience in large industrial warehouse settings with high ceilings and open floor plans.

Why Work Here?

You join a safety-focused industrial operation that values hard work, reliability, and teamwork. The environment offers clear responsibilities, consistent shift schedules, and the opportunity to develop skills on a variety of equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes. You gain hands-on experience with steel processing and material handling while working in a setting that emphasizes training, adherence to safety standards, and long-term contribution to the warehouse and production teams.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large industrial warehouse with high ceilings and open space, designed for processing and handling substantial volumes of steel beams. The facility operates with a strong safety culture, requiring steel-toe boots, a hard hat, and safety glasses at all times. Temperatures can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, with heat lamps used to make conditions feel closer to room temperature during colder months. Work involves heavy industrial tasks, including loading and unloading trucks, moving long steel beams, and supporting cutting and processing operations, primarily on 2nd shift after an initial training period on 1st shift. Company policy includes random drug testing for employees.
