Job Description
As an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, you will ensure adherence to federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines. You will be responsible for inspecting facilities, identifying workplace hazards, and creating action plans to prevent injuries. You will lead incident and accident investigations to determine root causes and corrective steps. You will serve as a safety liaison between store operations, logistics, corporate teams, and external vendors. Additionally, you will coach employees and leaders on safety protocols and safe work practices.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines.
- Inspect facilities to identify workplace hazards and develop action plans to prevent injuries.
- Lead incident and accident investigations to identify root causes and corrective measures.
- Act as a liaison for safety between store operations, logistics, corporate teams, and external vendors.
- Develop and implement new safety programs and enhance existing ones.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analysis/Risk Assessments and create training programs and job aids.
- Collaborate with operational leadership, Design/Engineering, Business Continuity, and other stakeholders.
- Teach and influence others to champion change for enhanced environmental compliance and human safety.
- Investigate incidents systematically to identify trends and make proactive recommendations.
- Complete special projects and assignments as needed.
Essential Skills
- Expertise in health and safety, environmental health, and safety training.
- Knowledge of OSHA compliance, industrial hygiene, and safety program management.
- EHS Degree or related qualification with at least 3 years of EHS safety experience.
- Confidence in providing feedback and managing environmental health and safety procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in distribution and/or manufacturing and store operations.
- Certification as an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM).
- Familiarity with 1910 OSHA Standards.
Work Environment
The role is primarily based on an onsite manufacturing floor, where you will engage with various departments to enhance safety practices and compliance. The environment offers opportunities for professional growth and promotions.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.46 - $50.48/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
