Job Title: ArchitectJob Description

This Architect role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex project segments from schematic design through construction documents, with a strong focus on technical accuracy, coordination, and timely delivery. You will lead multi-discipline collaboration, guide junior architects, and play a key role in construction administration while contributing to a diverse portfolio that includes healthcare, multifamily, senior living, higher education, and retail projects. The position is ideal for a licensed architect with substantial experience who is looking for long-term growth, increasing leadership responsibility, and the potential to influence firm-wide project execution and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Own assigned project segments from schematic design through construction documents, ensuring technical accuracy, thorough coordination, and on-time delivery.
  • Lead and manage multi-discipline coordination with MEP, structural, and civil consultants, resolving conflicts and driving decisions independently as experience grows.
  • Perform and document building code analysis, including IBC, ADA/ABA, FGI, and local authority requirements, and translate findings into clear design decisions and project documentation.
  • Direct the day-to-day production work of Architect I and II team members, including assigning tasks, conducting redline reviews, and providing structured, actionable feedback.
  • Manage the RFI and submittal review process during construction administration, responding to contractor inquiries and reviewing submittals for compliance with design intent.
  • Conduct site observations during construction, document findings, and author field reports independently to support project quality and compliance.
  • Represent the firm in client meetings and OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) settings, presenting design solutions and technical recommendations with increasing authority over time.
  • Author and review specifications across multiple CSI divisions, and at the senior level, review and approve specifications prepared by junior staff.
  • Identify scope, schedule, and technical risks early in the project lifecycle and communicate proactively to the project principal to support effective risk management.
  • Contribute to and work within project execution plans, helping to refine processes for production of construction documents in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Provide input across all phases of projects, from early design through construction, particularly on healthcare, multifamily, senior living, and higher education work.
  • Support the growth of the healthcare project team by applying subject-matter expertise and mentoring colleagues involved in healthcare-related projects.
Essential Skills
  • Active architectural license required, with eligibility for Michigan registration or confirmed reciprocity.
  • 8–18+ years of total architectural experience, including at least 5+ years of post-licensure experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, including production of construction documents and coordination within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, with experience producing detailed and accurate construction documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive code analysis, including IBC, ADA/ABA, FGI, and local codes, and apply findings to design and documentation.
  • Proven track record of independent technical delivery across multiple project phases, from schematic design through construction documents and construction administration.
  • Experience directing and developing junior staff, including leading production efforts and providing clear feedback and mentoring.
  • Experience with commercial project work, including healthcare, multifamily, senior living, and higher education projects.
  • Experience working within and contributing to project execution plans for coordinated, efficient project delivery.
  • Strong specification writing ability across multiple CSI divisions, with growing responsibility for authorship and review.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • AIA membership preferred, demonstrating engagement with the professional architectural community.
  • NCARB certification preferred, supporting licensure mobility and professional standards.
  • Breadth of experience across all project phases, with increasing leadership and project management responsibilities.
  • Project management experience, including schedule management, coordination of consultants, and proactive risk identification.
  • Healthcare project experience preferred, particularly in hospital, clinic, or assisted living environments.
  • Experience with multifamily residential projects, including senior living and mixed-use developments.
  • Experience with higher education projects, such as university or college facilities.
  • Experience with retail and other commercial project types, contributing to a diverse project portfolio.
  • Interest in long-term growth within a firm, including potential progression into senior leadership and equity partnership.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present design solutions and technical recommendations to clients and project teams.
Work Environment

The work environment is an in-office setting five days per week, with each team member working in a dedicated cubicle rather than a studio format. This layout encourages focused work while still providing exposure to different teams and a wide range of project types. The atmosphere is friendly and collaborative, supporting mentorship, knowledge sharing, and professional growth. The office is located just off Woodward, close to restaurants and bars, and approximately a five-minute drive to downtown Royal Oak, offering convenient access to local amenities. The firm owns its building and is planning to expand office space into adjacent tenant space, reflecting a stable and growing practice. Team members work on significant projects, including assisted living facilities and major healthcare and higher education initiatives, with opportunities to contribute in all phases of the project.
