Job Title: EPD Systems TechnicianJob Description

This role focuses on building, maintaining, and improving electronic test systems and fixtures used in an engineering and test laboratory environment. You will work closely with engineers to translate electrical and mechanical design concepts into functional test systems, support prototype development, and ensure test equipment operates safely, accurately, and in compliance with relevant standards. The position offers extensive hands-on work with electronic and electro-mechanical systems and provides direct exposure to product development and the medical device and regulated product industry.

Responsibilities
  • Assist engineers in building test systems and fixtures in accordance with established standards.
  • Interpret electrical and mechanical designs and help transform engineering concepts into fully functional test systems.
  • Support duplicate builds of existing test systems for finished devices, sub-assemblies, and components.
  • Verify and promote safety practices around moving parts and exposed electrical wiring and components.
  • Read and interpret design drawings, including electrical components and wiring choices, and assist engineers in selecting, locating, and purchasing required parts.
  • Assemble prototypes and collaborate with engineers to iterate through design ideas and improvements.
  • Diagnose problems in electronic test equipment and perform repairs to restore proper operation.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance and perform upgrades to electronic systems as directed by engineers or supervisors.
  • Check, measure, and adjust test instruments against certified standards to ensure accurate and reliable data, prevent drift, and maintain compliance.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance tasks and document all activities to support ongoing operations.
  • Write clear reports and user manuals describing how to operate the test systems, fixtures, and devices that have been built or maintained.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong electronics testing and troubleshooting skills, including experience with test equipment and calibration.
  • Hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting electronic systems.
  • Electro-mechanical aptitude and comfort working with both electrical and mechanical components.
  • Proficiency in test equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Experience with PCB testing and test systems for electronic assemblies.
  • Understanding of test engineering concepts and equipment validation practices.
  • Attention to safety when working with electronic test equipment, wiring, and moving mechanical parts.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience as an electronics technician.
  • Experience working in a test laboratory, engineering lab, process development, or test engineering environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Exposure to medical device products or experience in the medical device industry.
  • Experience supporting regulated products or manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with calibration, validation, or quality systems in a regulated context.
  • Interest in prototype development, innovation, and process development disciplines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and cross-functional development teams.
  • Strong documentation skills for creating reports, procedures, and user manuals.
Work Environment

The role is based in an engineering laboratory and test lab environment with frequent hands-on bench work. You will regularly use electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, calibration equipment, PCB test systems, test fixtures, and custom-built assemblies, as well as mechanical assembly tools and electrical wiring tools. The work involves close collaboration with engineers and development teams, providing direct exposure to product development, testing, calibration, and process-development activities in the medical device and regulated product industry. The environment emphasizes safety, precision, and continuous learning, with a high level of practical, technical work rather than purely production-focused tasks.
