Position Overview

Norfolk Public Schools is seeking 2 Special Education Teachers to support students with intensive academic and behavioral needs at Sewells Point Elementary School. These full-time opportunities are ideal for educators who are passionate about serving students in self-contained classroom settings and creating positive learning environments that foster growth and success.

Start Date: August 24, 2026
End Date: June 4, 2027
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Self-Contained Special Education Classrooms
Students requiring intensive academic and behavioral support
Responsibilities
Deliver specialized instruction aligned with student IEP goals
Support students with academic, behavioral, social, and functional skill development
Create and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment
Implement behavior intervention strategies and supports
Collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and families
Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
Monitor student progress and maintain required documentation
Ensure compliance with state and district special education requirements
Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold one of the following Virginia licenses:

Adapted Curriculum K-12 Endorsement (preferred)
General Curriculum K-12 Endorsement with demonstrated self-contained classroom experience and comfort supporting students with behavioral needs

Important: Provisional licenses are not accepted for these positions.
