Health Information Specialist

WellSpace Health is seeking a detail-oriented Health Information Specialist to support the integrity, security, and accessibility of patient health records. This role is responsible for maintaining electronic health records, processing medical records requests, ensuring HIPAA compliance, and supporting providers, patients, and operational teams with timely access to health information.
Key Responsibilities- Manage, maintain, and organize electronic and paper medical records.
- Scan, index, upload, and file patient documentation within the EHR system.
- Enter, update, and verify patient demographic, insurance, and clinical information.
- Review records for accuracy, completeness, and proper document indexing.
- Resolve duplicate records, indexing errors, and documentation discrepancies.
- Process and fulfill medical records requests from patients, providers, payers, attorneys, and other authorized parties.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, patient authorization requirements, and organizational policies regarding protected health information (PHI).
- Support audits, compliance initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and reporting requests.
- Collaborate with clinical, operational, and administrative teams to support documentation integrity and continuity of care.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Coursework in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in medical records, health information management, patient access, revenue cycle, or a related healthcare administrative setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards.
- Experience working within electronic health record (EHR) systems; Epic experience preferred.
- Understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Experience handling confidential information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

This is a Contract position based out of Sacramento, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.90 - $24.90/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
