This hands-on Chemical Plant Operator role focuses on blending and manufacturing paints and adhesives while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. You will operate and monitor batch processes, accurately weigh and add raw materials, perform quality testing, complete production documentation, and support overall plant operations in line with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, control, and document production batches in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Record feeds, temperatures, pressures, and other critical process data accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Weigh and add raw materials according to batch instructions and established formulations.
  • Sample products at appropriate stages, perform quality testing, and document results to ensure specifications are met.
  • Load finished products into bulk tankers, totes, and drums safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain strict compliance with plant safety, environmental, and quality standards at all times.
  • Support maintenance activities as needed to keep equipment and production lines running reliably.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper housekeeping and handling of materials.
  • Work overtime and flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required to meet production demands.
  • Perform additional production-related duties as needed to support overall operational goals and plant performance.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in chemical plant operations, including mixing, compounding, and production activities.
  • Hands-on experience with batch manufacturing and batching processes.
  • Proficiency in blending paints and adhesives according to batch instructions.
  • Ability to accurately weigh and mix raw materials for batch production.
  • Experience completing batch records and production documentation with attention to detail.
  • Forklift operation experience in a production or warehouse environment.
  • Ability to perform quality testing and sampling of products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety compliance, including environmental, quality, and plant safety standards.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior manufacturing experience in a production setting.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in a production environment.
  • Basic math skills, including working with decimals and percentages.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry, email, and use of Microsoft Office.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with compounding, blending, and batch making in a chemical or coatings environment.
  • Familiarity with batch record systems and documentation best practices.
  • Comfort working with paints, adhesives, and raw chemical materials.
  • Ability to follow detailed written instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to safety, housekeeping, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Adaptability to changing production priorities and schedules.

Work Environment

This role is based in a chemical manufacturing plant on the production floor, with regular exposure to paints, adhesives, and raw chemical materials. You will work in a hands-on environment that involves standing for extended periods, lifting, material handling, and frequent forklift operation. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and provided, reflecting the strong emphasis on safety. The schedule may include overtime, nights, and weekend work to support production needs.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Berlin, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
