The Dispatcher oversees transportation move management from initial assignment through final delivery, ensuring shipments are coordinated efficiently, monitored closely, and delivered on time. Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage shipments from assignment through final delivery, ensuring all moves progress smoothly and meet service expectations.
  • Monitor and maintain load boards to secure timely coverage for all shipments and address capacity needs as they arise.
  • Source and secure carrier capacity within established rate guidelines, balancing cost effectiveness with service quality.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date shipment status information within the transportation management system (TMS).
  • Monitor pickups and deliveries to ensure performance standards are met and service commitments are honored.
  • Identify shipment delays and service risks proactively and take action to mitigate potential issues.
  • Resolve transportation exceptions and operational issues quickly and effectively, minimizing impact to customers and carriers.
  • Escalate unresolved concerns with clear, documented action steps and communication to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for carriers and transportation providers, handling day-to-day communication and support.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with carriers to support reliable capacity and long-term partnerships.
  • Provide proactive shipment updates and exception notifications to internal teams and customers, ensuring transparent communication.
  • Partner closely with account management and operations teams to coordinate service, resolve issues, and support customer needs.
  • Troubleshoot service issues and coordinate resolutions that balance carrier requirements, customer expectations, and profitability goals.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a professional and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Monitor profitability on assigned shipments and support efforts to maintain and improve margin performance.
  • Document carrier rejections and capacity issues to support analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Support operational reporting and data accuracy by maintaining clean, reliable data in systems and reports.
  • Assist with tracking transportation performance, including service metrics and carrier performance indicators.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in logistics, transportation, dispatch, brokerage, or supply chain, or 2–5 years of higher-level customer service or call center experience in an automotive, logistics, or similar environment.
  • Experience in trucking, transportation, third-party logistics (3PL), brokerage, or fleet operations is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including sorting and filtering large data sets, using basic formulas, working with pivot tables, and generating reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word for professional communication and documentation.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use transportation management systems (TMS).
  • Understanding of transportation operations and workflows within a logistics environment.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations is preferred.
  • Experience with ELD/eLog systems is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally to carriers, customers, and internal teams.
  • Customer service mindset with a focus on responsiveness, professionalism, and problem resolution.
  • Relationship-building ability to develop and maintain productive carrier and stakeholder partnerships.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail to manage multiple shipments and tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and composure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically when addressing transportation exceptions and service issues.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned shipments and responsibilities.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions in time-sensitive situations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred and may substitute for some direct logistics or transportation experience.
  • Experience in call center or higher-level customer service roles, particularly within automotive, logistics, or similar industries, is valued.
  • High energy and professional presence with the ability to engage carriers and internal stakeholders confidently.
  • Comfort with data entry and track-and-trace activities within transportation systems.
  • Experience using transportation management systems (TMS) for shipment tracking and status updates.
  • Exposure to dispatching, carrier coordination, and track-and-trace functions.
  • Interest in developing logistics and leadership skills, with motivation to grow into roles such as Site Manager or Operations Manager.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with operations and account management teams.
  • Commitment to maintaining accurate documentation of carrier rejections, capacity issues, and performance data.
Work Environment

This role operates in a fast-paced, team-oriented transportation operations environment with significant interaction across carriers, operations, and account management teams. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a rotating shift from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. There is also a requirement to work one weekend per month on a rotating basis, with schedules published in advance to support planning. The position provides exposure to transportation operations and carrier management, along with opportunities to develop logistics expertise and leadership skills in a professional, collaborative setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Plymouth, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $55000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
