We are partnering with a stable, employee-owned organization in the Kansas City area to identify a Sr. Accounts Payable Specialist for a contract-to-hire opportunity. The ideal candidate will have recent full-cycle Accounts Payable experience, experience in a high-volume AP environment, and strong attention to detail. This individual will also serve as a key resource for the team, helping answer questions and providing support to colleagues when needed. Sage experience is preferred but not required, and a Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Accounts Payable Specialist to support a growing accounting team in a high-volume environment. This individual will be responsible for managing the full accounts payable cycle, ensuring accurate and timely invoice processing, resolving vendor and payment issues, and supporting month-end accounting activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of serving as a resource to other team members by providing guidance on AP processes and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage vendor invoices from receipt through payment.
  • Perform invoice coding, review approvals, and ensure compliance with established accounting procedures.
  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies, payment issues, and vendor inquiries.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and assist with account reconciliations.
  • Support month-end close activities and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure timely and accurate processing of payables.
  • Assist with process improvements, system enhancements, and ongoing departmental initiatives.
  • Act as a resource for team members by answering questions and providing support on AP-related processes.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience in full-cycle Accounts Payable.
  • Experience working in a high-volume invoice processing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and account coding.
  • Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies independently.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience mentoring, training, or supporting other team members is a plus.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Sage or similar accounting software is preferred but not required.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
