Controller / Director of Finance
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Controller / Director of Finance to lead the financial strategy and accounting operations for a manufacturing organization in Cordova, Tennessee. This role oversees core financial reporting, planning, compliance, and internal controls while supporting sound business decisions across the company. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, operational finance expertise, and a hands-on approach to improving processes, strengthening oversight, and guiding a high-performing finance function.
Responsibilities:
• Direct day-to-day finance and accounting activities, including invoicing, receivables, payables, general ledger oversight, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition practices.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and develop financial forecasts, then monitor performance against targets and communicate key variances to leadership.
• Oversee the month-end close cycle and ensure timely issuance of accurate monthly financial reports and management insights.
• Strengthen financial governance by refining internal controls, supporting tax-related procedures, and maintaining reliable accounting policies and documentation.
• Monitor cash positions and recommend strategies to improve use of available funds while accelerating closing and reporting timelines.
• Evaluate financial and operational trends to identify risk areas and support informed decisions related to spending, investment, and business performance.
• Coordinate internal risk reviews and audit readiness efforts, and help implement corrective actions that reduce exposure and improve compliance.
• Ensure all required regulatory reporting and tax filings are completed accurately and in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.
• Build, mentor, and retain a capable finance team while driving efficient workflows, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous process improvement through technology and organizational change.
• Partner with senior leadership on financial planning, external audit coordination, asset protection, and special projects that support broader business goals.
• Proven experience leading finance and accounting functions in a manufacturing environment.• Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• Expertise in accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, and cash flow oversight.
• Solid understanding of internal controls, compliance standards, tax reporting, and audit coordination.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial trends, assess risk, and translate findings into practical business recommendations.
• Experience improving finance processes, documenting policies, and enhancing reporting efficiency through systems and workflow optimization.
• Effective leadership skills with a track record of developing teams, managing priorities, and collaborating with executive stakeholders.
