Quality Control Laboratory Technician
Job Description
The Quality Lab Technician is responsible for conducting a variety of laboratory tests to ensure the quality and compliance of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product integrity by identifying and troubleshooting quality issues, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to strict safety and compliance standards. The position involves interaction with the Production, Batching, and Supply Chain departments.
Responsibilities- Prepare and conduct laboratory tests on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Collect, analyze, and document test results, comparing them against established quality standards.
- Identify and troubleshoot any deviations or issues in testing results.
- Perform calibrations on laboratory equipment to ensure test accuracy.
- Prepare and standardize chemical solutions used in testing procedures.
- Perform swab testing for batching areas and other designated production zones as needed.
- Conduct water sampling and prepare samples for third-party microbiological testing.
- Manage and maintain logs of third-party test results and follow up on any issues or deviations.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of all laboratory equipment and work areas.
- Keep detailed, accurate records of tests, results, and any corrective actions taken.
- File production records and ensure all logs are accurate and up to date.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports and presentations based on test findings.
- Inspect incoming chemical raw materials and verify they meet required standards.
- Test and, if necessary, adjust products to meet quality and specification requirements.
- Organize the retention of finished products in accordance with company policy.
- Inspect the quality of finished products, including fill weight, color, odor verification, heat seal integrity, lot number accuracy, application and removal torque, general appearance, gas chromatography, and additional product-specific criteria.
- Prepare samples for internal evaluation and external testing.
- Train new Lab Technicians and other personnel on lab procedures and protocols.
- Collaborate with team members to continuously improve testing procedures and overall quality assurance processes.
- Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- 1-3 years of experience performing quality lab testing in a manufacturing environment, preferably with cleaners, liquids, or foods.
- Experience in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, and database systems.
- Ability to work with precision and accuracy.
- Basic understanding of chemistry and math.
- Good communication skills.
- Exposure to quality systems, production processes, and cross-functional operations.
- Experience in a stable manufacturing environment with growth potential.
The position is based in a manufacturing facility with a fast-paced production environment. The role primarily requires standing throughout the shift and involves interaction with production, quality, shipping, purchasing, and supply chain teams. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required per facility guidelines. The work schedule is on the 2nd Shift, with initial training on the 1st Shift. First shift training is Monday - Friday, 6 am-2:30 p.m., for the first few months. The 2nd shift hours are Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gurnee, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
