Job Description

The Ammonia Refrigeration Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment. This role focuses on ensuring reliable operation of compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, and air handling units through both corrective and planned maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair all components of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Diagnose issues with screw and reciprocating compressors and perform necessary repairs and adjustments.
  • Service and repair evaporative condensers, ensuring proper heat rejection and system performance.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair intercoolers and sub-coolers to optimize system efficiency and reliability.
  • Maintain and repair evaporators to support consistent temperature control and product integrity.
  • Service and troubleshoot pumps and recirculating packages used in industrial refrigeration applications.
  • Perform planned and preventive maintenance on all components of industrial refrigeration systems according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Maintain and service packaged air handling units associated with refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Document maintenance and repair activities accurately and communicate equipment status and recommendations to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Travel within the designated radius to customer sites to perform on-site troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance as required.
  • Operate and care for high-end tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and team members to resolve complex system issues and support continuous improvement of service quality.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial refrigeration experience.
  • Hands-on experience with ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and repair skills for screw and reciprocating compressor systems.
  • Proficiency in servicing condensers, including evaporative condensers, and associated cooling systems.
  • Ability to maintain and repair air handlers, cooling towers, and packaged air handling units.
  • Knowledge of industrial cooling systems and compressor-based refrigeration equipment.
  • Relevant refrigeration license appropriate to industrial and ammonia refrigeration work.
  • R.E.T.A. certification or equivalent industrial refrigeration technician certification.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 2–5 days overnight per month within a 2–3-hour radius, including occasional work up to 7 days a week as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with recirculating packages and pumps in industrial refrigeration environments.
  • Background in HVAC systems, particularly those integrated with industrial refrigeration.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, system schematics, and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.
  • Commitment to safety practices in handling ammonia and operating industrial refrigeration equipment.
  • Interest in ongoing professional development, mentoring, and training in refrigeration technologies.

The team consists of hundreds of professionals working across multiple locations, offering a collaborative and supportive environment with a strong focus on personal service and customer loyalty. You work primarily in industrial and food processing facilities, using advanced refrigeration tools and diagnostic equipment. Travel is required within a 2–3-hour radius, typically involving limited overnight stays each month, with average time spent in the truck around 43 hours per week. The environment emphasizes professionalism, safety, and high-quality workmanship, with appropriate attire expected for industrial and mechanical service settings.

This is a Permanent position based out of Nashville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $103417.60 - $122720.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
