Job Description
The Supply Quality Engineer works closely with suppliers to ensure that the quality of outsourced parts meets defined standards throughout the new model development process, from early design and tooling through new model quality evaluations and mass production launch. This role leads quality planning and execution for assigned suppliers, ensuring full part maturation and approval before mass production.
Responsibilities
- Work with suppliers to ensure outsourced parts meet quality requirements during new model development and through mass production launch.
- Track, analyze, and report part tooling development throughout the new model cycle for assigned suppliers, and provide tooling approvals (tool GOs) at designated new model development milestones.
- Request and manage the receipt of all Quality Assurance Notice (QAN) documents from suppliers, evaluate technical content, and request countermeasures as needed to achieve part approval.
- Complete new model part-by-part reviews and conduct trial event parts inspections to verify conformance to specifications and quality standards.
- Lead New Model Reviews (NMR) to confirm full maturation of all parts prior to mass production, and provide status updates to the product quality management team.
- Document and share all concern items, analysis results, recommendations, and countermeasures with management for inclusion in New Model Evaluation reports.
- Complete supplier Quality Review Meetings (QRMs) and Design Review Meetings (DRMs) according to the established plan.
- Schedule and complete new model meetings and events with research and development teams in alignment with the model development schedule.
- Ensure all design changes are properly approved and processed in coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Achieve full part approval for all components prior to mass production, ensuring that quality requirements are met.
- Evaluate supplier manufacturing processes during the new model development phase to identify the root cause of quality problems and set clear countermeasure direction.
- Prioritize part-related concerns and assess the effectiveness of process countermeasures to confirm change point control and appropriate resource allocation.
- Perform thorough quality evaluations of parts leading up to final part approval, using appropriate inspection and measurement techniques.
- Schedule onsite meetings with suppliers to review problem details, agree on improvement plans, and follow up on implementation and effectiveness.
- Support department needs by working flexible hours, including off-shifts, weekends, and overtime as required, and traveling to domestic and international supplier locations.
Essential Skills
- Experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or supplier quality within a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment and collaborating with OEM suppliers.
- Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, tracking, and reporting on supplier-related quality activities.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes and part design.
- Hands-on experience with quality trials, inspections, and audits for new product development and launch.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and define effective countermeasures for quality issues.
- Familiarity with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and new product development launch activities.
- Understanding of plastic components and related manufacturing and quality considerations.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and standards such as ISO 9001.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and supplier quality reports (e.g., QANs).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 2-year or 4-year degree preferred, or equivalent related experience in quality, engineering, project management, or supply chain.
- Experience completing supplier Quality Review Meetings (QRMs) and Design Review Meetings (DRMs).
- Experience leading New Model Reviews (NMR) and coordinating with R&D during model development.
- Measuring experience using hand tools, micrometers, calipers, and advanced measuring tools is a plus.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greensboro, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $39.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
