Process Automation Technician
Job Description
A manufacturing company seeks a Process Automation Technician to support and maintain automated production systems in a 24/7 industrial environment. This role involves troubleshooting SCADA and HMI systems, supporting equipment reliability, and aiding production teams in resolving automation-related issues. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on problem-solving, works well independently, and is eager to grow their skills in industrial automation and process controls.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot and repair automation and control system issues impacting production.
- Support PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems used throughout the facility.
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of automation equipment and instrumentation.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify and resolve equipment problems.
- Assist with installation, startup, and upgrades of automation and control systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation, work orders, and shift communications.
- Support calibration and maintenance of process monitoring and measuring systems.
- Update electrical drawings, procedures, and technical documentation as needed.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on productivity, quality, and reliability.
- 1-3+ years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing, maintenance, or process engineering with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell or Siemens PLC systems.
- Familiarity with SCADA and HMI software platforms.
- Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and automation systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Associate degree in Electronics, Automation, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Comfortable working rotating shifts in a 24/7 industrial manufacturing environment.
This role operates on a rotating schedule of 4 days on and 4 days off, offering built-in overtime. The work environment includes an industrial administrative setting with limited exposure to adverse conditions, protection from weather but not temperature changes, and potential exposure to hazardous conditions such as moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high heat, chemicals, and high-pressure hydraulic systems.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
