Journeyman Electrician (Commercial Construction & Campus Projects)

Location: Fairfax, VA
Job Type: 12-Month Contract
Pay: 42/hr

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Journeyman Electrician to support a variety of commercial construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects across a large university campus in Fairfax, VA. This position offers the opportunity to work independently on small to mid-sized electrical projects while collaborating with construction and facilities teams.

The ideal candidate has strong commercial electrical experience, can read blueprints with confidence, and is comfortable managing electrical work autonomously from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical installations, repairs, upgrades, and maintenance across campus buildings.
  • Support renovation projects, tenant improvements, buildouts, and general construction initiatives.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical systems, wiring, panels, lighting, and related equipment.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors, and facility personnel.
  • Manage assigned projects with minimal supervision.
  • Travel occasionally to additional project sites in Arlington and Manassas as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Journeyman Electrician License (Virginia preferred, Maryland or DC accepted).
  • 4+ years of electrician experience.
  • Strong commercial electrical background.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proven ability to work independently on electrical projects.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable transportation for occasional travel between project locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education, healthcare, government, or large commercial environments.
  • Experience supporting renovation, construction, or facilities projects.
  • Familiarity with local electrical codes and regulations.
