Job Description

The Buyer II plays a key role in ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, equipment, and services. This position requires a solid foundation in procurement practices and the ability to support project delivery by coordinating purchasing activities, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and adhering to established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively and professionally conduct and coordinate activities related to procuring materials, equipment, and services to support project and operational needs.
  • Apply a strong working knowledge of procurement concepts, principles, and practices to ensure timely task completion and successful project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationship expectations that support quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Understand the role of procurement in the overall project delivery process and how this position integrates with other project functions.
  • Deliver value-added procurement support by identifying opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and risk mitigation.
  • Perform all assignments in accordance with established policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, and compliance requirements applicable to the assigned group, subject area, or commodity.
  • Support bidding, contracting, and source selection activities as needed, particularly for projects with specific regulatory or client requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and ensure alignment on procurement strategies.
  • Perform other procurement and purchasing duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • 2–3 years of experience in a procurement, purchasing, or buyer role.
  • Demonstrated experience performing purchasing and planning activities for materials, equipment, and services.
  • Strong working knowledge of procurement concepts, principles, and practices.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple procurement tasks and support project delivery processes.
  • Understanding of supplier relationship management and expectations.
  • Ability to work within established procurement policies and procedures.
  • Degree or equivalent education and experience in a relevant field (such as business, engineering, or related discipline).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or another applicable major is preferred; relevant procurement experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree depending on role requirements.
  • Experience with federal procurement is a nice-to-have, including familiarity with FAR, DFAR, and other agency supplements for federal project assignments.
  • Experience with state or local contracting, bidding, and source selection practices is beneficial, depending on the intended role.
  • Good analytical skills to evaluate supplier proposals, pricing, and contract terms.
  • Good organizational skills to manage multiple procurement activities and deadlines.
  • Good presentation skills to communicate procurement strategies, recommendations, and status updates to stakeholders.
  • Background in procurement, purchasing, buyer purchasing, or planning activities.

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional office-based environment with a focus on supporting project and operational procurement needs. The hiring team conducts onsite interviews and aims to schedule multiple interviews on the same day when possible to streamline the process. The position involves regular collaboration with project teams and other internal stakeholders, using standard office technologies and tools to manage procurement activities, documentation, and communication.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $31.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
