Job Description

The Plant Superintendent oversees day-to-day structural steel fabrication operations across two nearby facilities and two shifts, providing direct leadership to production supervisors. This role is accountable for the safety of all personnel, facility and equipment maintenance, fabrication efficiency, adherence to quality standards, effective scheduling of work, and consistently meeting shipping and delivery commitments. The Plant Superintendent serves as a hands-on leader who drives productivity, quality, and continuous improvement while managing multiple complex fabrication projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily fabrication operations in two production facilities within close proximity, across two shifts.
  • Provide direct leadership, guidance, and support to production supervisors at both facilities.
  • Ensure the safety of all personnel by promoting and enforcing industry safety standards and best practices.
  • Manage facility and equipment maintenance to support reliable and efficient production operations.
  • Drive fabrication efficiency and productivity while maintaining high-quality standards in all structural steel products.
  • Plan and schedule fabrication work to meet shipping and delivery deadlines for multiple projects.
  • Ensure compliance with AISC and AWS codes, standards, and practices in all fabrication activities.
  • Monitor and improve fabrication processes, workflows, and production management practices.
  • Oversee multiple departments, including Receiving/Inventory, CNC processing, Fabrication/Welding, Paint, and Shipping.
  • Coordinate large, heavy, and complex structural steel fabrication projects from planning through completion.
  • Promote waste minimization and continuous improvement initiatives across the production environment.
  • Ensure proper coating application and compliance with ASTM coating requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct or oversee fabrication inspection activities to verify quality and adherence to standards.
  • Identify potential issues or improvement opportunities in operations and take proactive corrective actions.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors, production teams, and other stakeholders to align on priorities and expectations.
  • Maintain organized production schedules, workflows, and documentation to support efficient operations.
  • Foster an engaging, hands-on leadership culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 7+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or production environment.
  • Proficiency in structural steel fabrication, including large, heavy, and complex projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of AWS D1.1 standards (Certified Welding Inspector preferred but not required).
  • Experience working in an AISC-certified shop or environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of ASTM coating requirements and related industry standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of common fabrication operations, workflows, and practices.
  • Proven ability to oversee multiple departments such as Receiving/Inventory, CNC processing, Fabrication/Welding, Paint, and Shipping.
  • Strong production management skills, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
  • Solid understanding of safety practices and industry safety standards in steel manufacturing and fabrication.
  • Ability to drive waste minimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with supervisors, production teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Effective leadership skills with a hands-on, engaging management style.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate potential issues and improvement opportunities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with fabrication and production of structural steel in a steel manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with AISC codes and practices in structural steel fabrication.
  • Understanding of coating requirements and application processes for structural steel.
  • Experience in safety, waste minimization, and fabrication inspection within a production shop.
  • Knowledge of ASTM standards related to coatings and structural steel.
  • Ability to manage complex, often multiple fabrication projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated capability to work effectively in dusty, dirty, and high-heat production environments.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to engage teams on the shop floor.
  • Proficiency in identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities in fabrication processes.

Work Environment

This role is based in a steel manufacturing production shop environment that is very dusty and dirty and can involve working under extreme heat conditions. Work is centered around structural steel fabrication operations, including CNC processing, welding, coating, and shipping activities. The environment is fast-paced and industrial, with heavy equipment, large steel components, and active production lines. Team members work on-site in the shop across multiple departments, collaborating closely with supervisors and production staff to maintain safety, quality, and efficiency.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Arlington, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $105000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
