Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and fabricating tanker trucks that transport petroleum. You will diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, perform repairs in the shop, and occasionally support field service work. The position is ideal for mechanics who enjoy hands-on work with diesel systems, brakes, hydraulics, plumbing, and tanker components in a busy service center environment.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical issues on tanker trucks, including but not limited to brakes, plumbing, air systems, and hydraulic components.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on diesel trucks and tanker trailers in the shop, ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards.
- Fabricate and repair damaged parts on tanker trucks, including tanks, hoses, and related assemblies.
- Use hand tools, welding equipment, and other shop tools to perform mechanical, fabrication, and maintenance tasks.
- Carry out aluminum, steel, MIG, TIG, and shop/ag welding for structural repairs and custom configurations on tankers and related equipment.
- Support occasional field service repairs when needed, traveling to customer locations to resolve urgent mechanical issues.
- Follow established procedures and safety guidelines while working on petroleum-carrying tanker trucks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly store tools and equipment after use.
- Collaborate with other mechanics and shop personnel to complete repairs efficiently and meet service center timelines.
- Document work performed and communicate repair status and any additional service needs to appropriate personnel.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on mechanic experience working on trucks, trailers, or similar heavy equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues involving brakes, plumbing, air systems, hydraulics, and diesel components.
- Proficiency using hand tools and shop tools for mechanical repairs and maintenance.
- Experience with welding in a shop environment, including aluminum, steel, MIG, TIG, and agricultural-style welding.
- Capability to perform fabrication work on tanker trucks and related assemblies.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently on complex repairs.
- Comfort working in a busy service center that supports multiple trucks from Stockton and surrounding areas.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on tanker trucks or petroleum transport equipment is beneficial but not required.
- Previous work in diesel mechanics, hydraulics, or trailer repair is highly valued.
- Ability to support occasional field service repairs outside the shop when needed.
- Willingness to work extended hours, including some evenings and scheduled Saturdays.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Stockton, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
