Role Description The Mechanical Take Off / Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Boston area. This role is responsible for reviewing mechanical drawings and specifications, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, and preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing project documents, coordinating with project managers and engineers, validating material and labor requirements, and assisting in developing bid proposals. The position also involves identifying potential cost savings, ensuring estimates align with company standards and client requirements, and occasionally supporting site visits for verification and inspection. The Mechanical Take Off / Estimator helps ensure competitive and compliant bids for public sector construction projects.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering concepts and mechanical systems relevant to commercial and government construction projects.
- Proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for reviewing drawings, extracting quantities, and validating mechanical layouts.
- Experience with Maintenance planning and understanding of lifecycle costs for mechanical equipment and building systems.
- Knowledge of Inspection practices to verify mechanical installations, materials, and adherence to specifications.
- Familiarity with Automotive or related mechanical components as beneficial background for understanding complex mechanical assemblies.
- Experience in mechanical estimating, quantity takeoffs, or construction cost analysis, preferably in public sector or federal projects.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software; strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work on-site with cross-functional teams.
- Relevant technical degree, certification, or equivalent work experience in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field.
