Animal Attendant

The Ocean County Health Department is seeking to add to our growing Animal Facilities and is currently hiring seasonal staff.

Position: Seasonal Animal Attendant

Seasonal employees will be hired for a duration of 6 months, with the possibility of permanent employment contingent upon a successful evaluation. Seasonal employees will work 28-32 hours per week and must be available to work on weekends and holidays.

Location:

The Ocean County Animal Facilities are located in Jackson, NJ, and Manahawkin, NJ. Seasonal employees will be primarily based at the facility closer to their residence but may be asked to work at the other facility one or two days per week.

Current Facility Hours: Open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including holidays.

Job Responsibilities

- Provide care for both dogs and cats at the facilities.
- Feed, water, clean, groom, and exercise animals.
- Clean and sterilize animal food bowls and water pans.
- Disinfect and deodorize washing and grooming areas.
- Operate laundry equipment.
- Clean and disinfect animal living quarters and may also clean other areas, such as the office and outside spaces.
- Observe animals for general health, diet, weight, appetite, and any negative symptoms.
- Maintain security in the animal housing areas.
- Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Assist with animal adoptions.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties necessary for the proper and safe operation of the Shelter/Agency.
- Be open to the possibility of euthanasia for health, aggression, or unsafe public adoption cases.
