Brookside Gallery & Framing is a locally owned custom framing studio specializing in high-quality, one-of-a-kind framing for fine art, photographs, memorabilia, and design projects. Our team works directly with artists, designers, collectors, and retail customers to create beautiful, archival-quality pieces.


Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced, part-time Custom Framer to join our team. The ideal candidate has strong technical framing skills, a good eye for design, and a genuine appreciation for craftsmanship.

This position will participate in all aspects of the framing process—from customer consultation and design through fabrication, assembly, fitting, and final quality control. The right candidate will be a solution-focused problem solver who brings precision, reliability, and a positive attitude to interactions with both customers and fellow team members.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with customers to select frames, mats, glazing, and layouts that complement and protect their artwork
  • Offer knowledgeable recommendations regarding framing styles, materials, and conservation options
  • Fabricate and assemble custom frames according to project specifications
  • Measure, cut, and join moulding precisely using a chop saw and underpinner
  • Cut mats, glass, acrylic, backing, and other framing materials
  • Mount and assemble artwork using appropriate archival and conservation techniques
  • Fit, finish, inspect, and prepare completed pieces for customer pickup or delivery
  • Safely operate framing equipment, hand tools, and power tools
  • Handle large, heavy, or bulky artwork and completed frames when necessary
  • Identify and resolve construction, design, and fitting challenges
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace
  • Assist with inventory, material organization, and general shop upkeep
  • Support team members during busy periods and with special projects

Qualifications:

  • Experience with common framing tools and equipment, including mat cutters, glass cutters, underpinners, and saws
  • Knowledge of frame fabrication, assembly, and joinery techniques
  • Strong visual design sense and the ability to confidently advise customers
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship
  • Ability to troubleshoot and find practical solutions to framing challenges

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience using LifeSaver framing software
  • Knowledge of specialty and conservation materials, including UV-filtering and museum glass, archival mounting methods, and specialty substrates

Compensation and Schedule:

  • Competitive hourly wage based on experience
  • Part-time position
  • Regular schedule: Employee will typically work the same shifts each week up to 20 hours/week. Must be available on Saturdays. Shop hours are 10-5:30 Monday - Friday and 10:00-4:30 p.m on Saturdays.
