Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides clinical nursing support for residents receiving residential SUD and co-occurring treatment services, including Withdrawal Management (WM) and Incidental Medical Services (IMS). The RN is responsible for nursing assessments, withdrawal monitoring, medication support, admissions, care coordination, and ongoing resident treatment needs while meeting a 50% daily billing productivity target and supporting quality, safe, and effective care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Act as the LPHA and conduct initial screenings, interviews, and assessments with prospective residents to determine their suitability for WM or IMS services. Ensure proper documentation and adherence to clinical guidelines during the admission process.

2. Provide oversight and support to other nursing staff by reviewing resident documentation, including withdrawal protocol orders. Ensure that appropriate levels of care are provided and that data collected meets program requirements for individuals entering Withdrawal Management and IMS programs.

3. Work closely with physicians and the multidisciplinary treatment team to provide educational support, training, and guidance on Withdrawal Management, harm reduction principles, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) as part of the recovery process.

4. Assist staff with the implementation of quality care practices, focusing on the understanding and competency of MAT as a treatment modality. Conduct education groups for residents on MAT services, harm reduction, and recovery principles tailored to individual needs.

5. Facilitate monthly staff training sessions on topics such as MAT, withdrawal management protocols, monitoring health status, and overdose prevention. Document attendance and assess the satisfaction of staff with the training provided.

6. Develop and implement a monthly training calendar that includes essential topics such as MAT, health monitoring equipment, withdrawal management, overdose reversal strategies, and other relevant care protocols. Maintain training attendance records and ensure staff attend at least one training per month.

7. Oversee all aspects of Withdrawal Management and MAT utilization, ensuring proper storage, handling, and administration of MAT medications, including controlled substances, in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

8. Meet 50% of the daily productivity billing requirements as outlined by the program. Ensure that services provided are documented accurately for billing purposes.

9. Monitor and maintain all program equipment, such as self-monitored blood pressure equipment, thermometers, pulse oximeters, etc., ensuring they are in good working condition. Provide staff training on the proper use of equipment.

10. Conduct frequent training and competency assessments for all program staff regarding the proper use of health monitoring equipment and the standards of care related to MAT.

11. Coordinate admissions for individuals requiring Withdrawal Management or IMS services, including referrals for those who return to use and need discharge from traditional residential settings. Conduct and document nursing assessments at the time of admission and throughout the treatment episode for all residential program admissions when additional assistance is needed.

12. Attend continued education events to remain current on treatment trends, best practices, and standards of care in the addiction treatment field. Share these insights with the treatment team to ensure the implementation of up-to-date practices and improve the overall quality of care provided.

13. Collect and manage data on MAT and IMS utilization, overdose prevention and reversal efforts, and harm reduction strategies. Ensure that data is accurately recorded and analyzed to monitor program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

14. Adhere to all regulatory expectations, ethical standards and Agency policies and procedures, including the Agency’s Core Beliefs.

15. Maintain constructive relationships with family members, community members and organizations, human services agencies, and other professionals.

16. Attend program staff meetings as required, agency meetings as mandated, and on-site and offsite training as directed.

17. Assist in ensuring a safe and alcohol/drug free environment.

18. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Credential, Education, and Experience

1. Possession of valid, active RN license.

2. Able to complete at least 30 hours of continuing education every two years in areas related to behavioral health.

3. Experience in a behavioral health field.


Language and Communication Skills

1. Ability to read and write English fluently.

2. Ability to speak effectively before groups, residents/participants, and family members.

3. Ability to legibly write and document within the Agency’s electronic health record systems.

4. Basic proficiency in using a computer and other telehealth technology. Proficient in Word and Microsoft Office software.

Other Requirements

1. Knowledge of 12-Step programs and/or philosophy.

2. Current CPR and First Aid Certifications.

3. A valid government-issued picture ID.

4. If employees use their personal vehicle to commute to work and/or parks on Agency property, a current California driver’s license is required.

a. If employee has an out-of-state driver’s license, they must attain a valid California license no later than 10 days from employment start date.

b. Must maintain current liability insurance coverage on personal vehicle.

c. On occasion, employee may be asked to use their personal vehicle to transport participants/residents to offsite appointments. Standard mileage rate will be reimbursed as applicable.

5. If employee uses an Agency-owned vehicle to transport residents/participants to offsite appointments, a current California driver’s license is required.

a. If employee has an out-of-state driver’s license, they must attain a valid California license no later than 10 days from employment start date.
