Shiloh Empowerment Services is looking for compassionate, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide person-centered support to adults with disabilities in community-based settings within Northern Virginia Monday-Friday 9am-3:30pm.


DSPs play an important role in helping individuals build independence, participate in meaningful activities, develop life skills, and engage with their communities while maintaining dignity, choice, and respect.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support in community settings (e.g., libraries, parks, volunteer sites, workplaces, stores, and social environments) in alignment with each individual’s support plan (ISP) and general activities schedule.
  • Facilitate meaningful community inclusion by supporting individuals in participating in integrated activities alongside non-disabled peers.
  • Promote independence, choice, and self-determination by encouraging individuals to make decisions about their daily activities and goals.
  • Skill Building & Development: Teach and support development of daily living skills, including budgeting, meal planning, personal hygiene, time management, and use of community resources.
  • Support individuals in building social, communication, and relationship skills in natural environments.
  • Assist individuals with vocational exploration, volunteer opportunities, and employment readiness, based on their interests and goals.
  • Implement individual support plan goals (Part V) and document measurable progress toward outcomes.
  • Health, Safety, and Personal Support: Provide assistance with personal care (as needed) including eating, grooming, hygiene, and mobility support while promoting dignity and independence.
  • Provide CPR/First Aid and emergency response as needed and in accordance with training.
  • Maintain line-of-sight supervision and ensure the safety of individuals in all community settings.
  • Monitor and report any changes in health status, behavior, or overall well-being to the supervisor promptly.
  • Behavioral Support & Crisis Intervention: Implement Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Crisis Intervention Plans consistently and appropriately.
  • Utilize positive behavior support strategies to promote appropriate behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Complete accurate, real-time documentation of service delivery, including progress notes, behavior data, and community activity logs.
  • Ensure all incident reports (GERs), health/safety documentation, and required records are completed before the end of each shift.
  • Follow all Shiloh Empowerment Services policies, DBHDS regulations, and applicable state guidelines for community-based services.
  • Professionalism & Team Collaboration : Maintain professional, respectful, and therapeutic relationships with individuals served. Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, families, and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Provide 1:1 support based on individual needs and service authorization.
  • Transportation & Community Access: Safely transport individuals to and from community activities, appointments, and service locations.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance as transportation within the individual’s local community is required.
