Job Title: Construction Inspector (Pier Recapitalization)
Location: North Charleston, SC
Duration: September 2026 to June 2030 approx
Job Summary: We are seeking a full-time Construction Inspector (CI) to provide on-site surveillance for the Pier Recapitalization project at USCG Base Charleston. This marine construction effort includes the demolition of an existing pier and the construction of a new along with dredging, bulkhead repairs, and shoreside utility improvements. The CI will serve as a technical advisor to the Government, ensuring the design-build contractor maintains strict compliance with all contract documents and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily on-site inspections and surveillance of all construction activities to ensure quality workmanship and contract compliance.
- Witness field tests, maintain testing logs, and verify that materials meet all project specifications.
- Review and comment on progress schedules, submittals, and payment requests.
- Prepare detailed weekly progress reports including digital photography and descriptions of construction milestones or unforeseen conditions.
- Verify the accuracy of contractor as-built drawings on a weekly basis.
- Monitor safety protocols and report any violations to the Project Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of construction experience as an inspector, superintendent, or quality control manager; OR 5 years of experience plus a 4-year Engineering degree, PE, or PMP certification.
- Certification: Must have completed a Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) course within the last five years.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in reading contract drawings and specifications, with a thorough understanding of local and national building codes.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PDF software.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to walk, climb, and traverse active construction sites with unstable footing, ladders, and various weather conditions
