Position Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Estate Gardener to provide comprehensive care and maintenance for approximately 7 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. This hands-on role requires a proactive individual with a strong work ethic, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to ensure the gardens and outdoor areas are consistently maintained to the highest standards—always “parade ready.”
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform the overall care, upkeep, and enhancement of the estate's gardens, lawns, plantings, and landscaped areas.
- Conduct routine maintenance including weeding, pruning, edging, mulching, leaf removal, and seasonal planting.
- Maintain and troubleshoot systems such as underground irrigation, outdoor lighting, and decorative water features (e.g., fountains). With assistance of contractors.
- Ensure cleanliness and readiness of all garden areas through regular leaf blowing, pathway upkeep, and general tidying.
- Carry out seasonal tasks including snow removal, salting of pathways, and winter protection of plants and features.
- Undertake light handyman duties and small repairs as needed, particularly related to outdoor infrastructure and garden fixtures.
- Monitor plant health, soil condition, and irrigation effectiveness; report any issues or abnormalities promptly.
- Operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Support the preparation of the grounds for events or special occasions as directed by the Estate Manager.
Requirements:
- Prior experience in gardening, landscaping, or groundskeeping (private estate experience a plus).
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor in various weather conditions and over extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and a pride in maintaining a pristine and aesthetically pleasing environment.
- Self-motivated with excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a small team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and seasonal workloads.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
