Tax Preparer
Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and credentialed Tax Preparer to join our team on a full-time, year-round basis. In this role, you will prepare and review individual and small business tax returns for our established client base, working closely with our financial advisors to deliver a coordinated, comprehensive experience. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys client relationships and wants to be part of a firm that genuinely cares about the people it serves.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and complete federal and state income tax returns for individuals, families, and small business clients (1040, Schedule C, Schedule D, Schedule E, and related forms)
- Review prior-year returns and client financial information to identify planning opportunities and potential issues
- Communicate directly with clients to gather necessary documents, explain return details, and answer questions in a clear, approachable manner
- Coordinate with financial advisors to ensure tax strategy is aligned with each client's broader financial plan
- Stay current on changes in federal and state tax law and assess their impact on clients
- Respond to IRS and state tax notices and assist clients with audits or correspondence as needed
- Maintain organized, accurate client records and files in compliance with firm and regulatory requirements
- Support tax planning throughout the year, not just during filing season, including estimated tax calculations, Roth conversion analysis, and year-end planning discussions
Qualifications
Required
- Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or EA (Enrolled Agent) credential in good standing
- Minimum 3 years of experience preparing individual income tax returns
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state tax law
- Proficiency in professional tax preparation software (e.g., Drake, UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar)
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills — you'll work directly with clients, not just numbers
- Ability to manage multiple client files and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred
- Experience working in a financial planning or wealth management environment
- Familiarity with investment-related tax issues (capital gains, cost basis, retirement distributions, etc.)
- Experience with small business returns (Schedule C, S-Corp, Partnership)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
What We Offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Paid time off and holidays
- Retirement plan with employer contribution
- A collaborative environment where tax and financial planning work hand in hand
- The opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with clients — not just process returns
