Operations Group Lead
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Operations Group Lead to oversee day-to-day production activities within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for supervising production associates and team leads, driving safety, quality, productivity, and delivery performance while ensuring efficient and consistent operations. The Operations Group Lead serves as a key partner to Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams to support stable production processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise production associates and team leads to achieve daily production goals and operational targets.
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Execute production schedules while managing staffing levels and balancing labor resources to meet production demands.
- Monitor and improve performance across key operational metrics, including Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People.
- Conduct daily production meetings, shift change communications, and team huddles to ensure alignment and accountability.
- Identify production issues and lead root cause investigations, corrective actions, and problem-solving activities.
- Escalate complex production challenges appropriately and coordinate resolution efforts across functional teams.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on process improvements, standard work updates, process controls, and equipment changes.
- Partner with Quality and Maintenance teams to address equipment downtime, quality concerns, defects, and rework issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing principles and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to enhance skills, engagement, performance, and leadership capability.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to production performance, safety incidents, quality concerns, and workforce metrics.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and high-performing work environment focused on operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent manufacturing leadership experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive, industrial, or high-volume manufacturing operations.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a production environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production flow, and operational performance management.
- Experience leading teams in a fast-paced, safety-focused manufacturing setting.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple departments.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in a dynamic production environment.
- Comfortable spending the majority of the workday on the manufacturing floor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Body-in-White (BIW), welding, assembly, fabrication, or other highly automated manufacturing operations.
- Knowledge of PFMEA development, control plans, process validation, and production readiness activities.
- Familiarity with production systems, automated equipment, robotics, and manufacturing performance metrics.
- Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis, or similar techniques.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily within a manufacturing facility and requires frequent interaction with production equipment, automated systems, and cross-functional teams. The role requires a highly visible floor presence and active engagement with production personnel to support operational goals, workforce development, and continuous improvement efforts.
