Gallery Host - Museum Shop & Café Marchand Support

Part-Time | 21–28 Hours per Week | Wednesday–Sunday Availability
The Westmoreland Museum of American Art is seeking a friendly, dependable, and visitor-focused Gallery Host to join our Visitor Experience team. This part-time position plays an important role in creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging experience for Museum visitors while supporting day-to-day operations throughout the Museum.
The successful candidate will primarily serve as a Gallery Host and will also be cross-trained to provide coverage in the Museum Shop and Café Marchand, offering variety in day-to-day responsibilities and the opportunity to work across several areas of the visitor experience.
Responsibilities
- Welcome visitors and provide friendly, professional assistance throughout the Museum.
- Monitor galleries to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for visitors, artwork, and Museum property.
- Safeguard our priceless collection through observation and inspection of gallery spaces, upholding to museum policies.
- Answer visitor questions and provide information about exhibitions, programs, amenities, and Museum guidelines.
- Support visitor flow and assist with special programs and events as needed.
- Cross-train in the Museum Shop and Café Marchand to provide coverage and operational support.
- Assist with retail transactions, merchandise, and customer service in the shop.
- Assist with basic café operations and guest service as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with Visitor Experience, Shop, Café, and other Museum staff.
- Perform other frontline visitor service responsibilities as needed.
Schedule
This is a part-time position averaging approximately 21–28 hours per week, generally scheduled 3-4 days per week, Wednesday through Sunday. Specific days and hours will vary based on Museum operations, programs, events, and staffing needs. Candidates must have flexibility to work weekends and occasional evenings as scheduled.
Qualifications
- Enjoys working with people and providing excellent customer service.
- Friendly, approachable, dependable, and professional.
- Comfortable working in a public-facing environment and interacting with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
- Able to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
- Willing and able to learn multiple areas of Museum operations.
- Previous customer service, hospitality, retail, café, museum, or related experience is preferred but not required.
