POSITION: General Maintenance Employee – Full-Time-Operations Department
LOCATION: Northville Public Schools - Operations
COMPENSATION: Minimum starting rate - $19.67/hour; wages commensurate with experience and
skills
EXPECTED START DATE: Immediate upon hire and notice
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School graduate or equivalent
• Possess general maintenance knowledge with ability to perform tasks which may include and
require a general knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, door hardware, snow removal-plowing,
landscaping and grounds keeping
• Knowledge and experience working with landscaping equipment and tools
• Ability to effectively access and utilize technology systems that support the Operations
Department
• Effective analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to read and comprehend manuals, instructions, drawings and written instructions
• Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and a good driving record
• Possess good verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrate evidence of good attendance and punctuality
• Demonstrate initiative, efficiency and timely follow through on responsibilities
• Ability to work independently, achieve and maintain job productivity
• Maintain cooperative and positive interactions with co-workers and supervisors
• Ability to periodically work overtime, as needed
• Ability to climb ladders and work from heights
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to perform all necessary tasks, including stooping, bending, squatting, reaching, pushing,
pulling, climbing, lifting and crawling
• Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work in inside and outside environmental conditions
• Must pass a criminal history background check (fingerprinting) as required by Michigan school
law
TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities reflected below may change to meet the emerging needs of the School and the
District.
• Effectively and efficiently perform a range of general maintenance tasks, as directed
• Service, repair a and provide preventative maintenance for variety of equipment or infrastructure
• Perform mowing, trimming, planting, weeding, etc. to maintain school grounds and athletic fields
• Perform plowing and snow removal
• Perform light carpentry, locksmith, painting, ceiling repair, furniture repair, etc.
• Support or assist with occasional custodial or cleaning tasks
• Provide timely response to work orders and maintain accurate records of status through
completion
• Move, relocate or reposition furniture and supplies within and among District facilities
• Load and unload supplies, assisting with receiving of products and supplies
• Collaborate and cooperate with contracted service providers and suppliers
• Notify the Director of Operations, or designee, of circumstances that require immediate or future
action
• Report to Director of Operations, or designee, regarding the status of equipment and systems, and
regularly update work order system for completed tasks and projects
• Provide ordering information for supplies and parts, as needed, and maintain supplies and
equipment used in the maintenance and repair of equipment
• Establish maintenance schedules and perform regular inspections to insure the proper operation of
equipment
• Follow standard operating procedures for installations and repairs
• Comply with all Work Rules established by the District
• Observe fire and safety precautions and recognized operating and maintenance procedures
• Compete required District on-line compliance training
• Comply with all OSHA work requirements
• Work collaboratively with outside contractors and report their progress to the Director of
Operations
• Provide assistance and support, as directed, in all emergency or crisis situations within the District
• Operate power tools, equipment and vehicles in a safe, responsible and efficient manner
• Work cooperatively with all administrative staff, employees, building principals and the public
• Maintain regular and consistent employee attendance
• Be responsible for and perform any other duties as may be assigned
