Electromechanical Assembler
Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electromechanical Assembler III to perform electronic and electromechanical assembly and subassembly in a production environment. This role involves semi-repetitive to repetitive assembly work requiring strong attention to detail, technical precision, and adherence to established procedures and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electronic, microelectronic, and electromechanical assembly of components and subassemblies.
- Assemble cable harnesses, PCBs, and small mechanical components.
- Perform mechanical troubleshooting and resolve assembly issues.
- Apply proper torque requirements when assembling small components.
- Perform soldering, resistance welding, epoxy mixing, bonding, potting, and packaging operations.
- Perform high-voltage potting and testing, including testing up to 12KV.
- Work with microscopes and precision hand tools.
- Follow ESD controls and procedures when handling sensitive electronic components and classified assemblies.
- Read and interpret blueprints, job travelers, rework instructions, test specifications, service bulletins, customer requirements, and quality directives.
- Maintain required productivity, quality, and performance standards.
- Identify production bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
- Report safety concerns, injuries, failures, FOD, material shortages, and production discrepancies promptly.
- Participate in Lean initiatives and contribute ideas for improving production processes.
- Ensure equipment is properly calibrated according to established schedules.
- Maintain accurate work orders, time records, and special-process documentation.
- Work collaboratively with Quality, Production Control, Engineering, and other departments while also working independently when required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 6+ years of relevant electronics/electromechanical assembly experience.
- Strong microelectronic assembly experience.
- Experience with cable harness and PCB assembly.
- Experience with precision mechanical assembly and torque requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, procedures, specifications, and work instructions.
- Strong understanding of ESD controls and electronic assembly practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and assembly-related issues.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills for accessing work orders, timecards, and production documentation.
Certifications & Technical Skills
- J-STD-001 certification preferred.
- IDC Specialist certification required.
- Experience with or ability to operate:
- Winding/braiding machinery
- Torque wrenches
- Digital multimeters
- Up to 12KV Hypot equipment
- Soldering irons
- Wire cutters and strippers
- Crimpers
- Heat guns
- Microscopes
- Common hand tools
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform precision assembly using hands and fingers.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit as required.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms and perform repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Requires close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work safely with electronic components, tools, machinery, and high-voltage testing equipment.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled electronics or electromechanical assembler with 6+ years of hands-on experience in precision assembly, PCB and cable harness work, soldering, high-voltage testing, and mechanical assembly. Strong attention to detail, quality, safety, and the ability to work effectively in a production environment are essential.
