Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support manufacturing operations within a fast-paced packaging production environment. This position is responsible for designing, improving, and maintaining production equipment, supporting capital projects, optimizing manufacturing processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a manufacturing setting, strong project management skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve plant performance and operational effectiveness.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement mechanical systems and equipment improvements.
- Lead equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and validation projects.
- Analyze manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and reliability.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment issues and develop long-term corrective actions.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Manage capital improvement projects from planning through execution.
- Coordinate with maintenance, operations, production, and outside vendors to complete projects on schedule.
- Support preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards, environmental regulations, and engineering best practices.
- Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
- Evaluate equipment performance and recommend upgrades or replacements as needed.
- Monitor project budgets, timelines, and resource requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with production equipment, automation systems, or process improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency with CAD software and engineering design principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing safety practices and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and project management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in packaging, plastics, bottling, consumer products, or high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Experience overseeing capital projects and equipment installations.
- Familiarity with PLC-controlled and automated production systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk manufacturing floors regularly.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access equipment platforms as needed.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and operational noise levels.
