JOB SUMMARY:

The Panel Builder is responsible for the assembly of Electrical Control Panels. This role focuses on interpreting control panel layouts and electrical drawings. The Technician will be responsible for the layout and physical mounting of components to the back panel, wiring of all components, installation of control panel into an enclosure while primarily working independently with minimal supervision. All duties must be performed in accordance with all company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide knowledge of layout design and wiring to other panel builders, communicate effectively, (written and verbally), with peers.
  • Maintain red line drawing mark-ups of changes required during fabrication.
  • Communicate red line changes to Team Leader/supervisor for revision prior to completion.
  • Read drawings to establish correct wiring/cable runs.
  • Run wires point to point from component to component and to termination.
  • Perform wire labeling at connection points.
  • Successfully terminate various types of copper connectors.
  • Choose the correct tool or methodology for specific wiring tasks.
  • Use provided drawings to layout wireways/din rail and components on back panels and enclosures.
  • Route and bundle wires neatly to meet company and UL standards.
  • Perform point to point wiring of, including but not limited to, relays, controls, PLCs, I/O Modules, VFDs, Interfaces, electrical components, & Instrumentation.
  • Understanding of electrical circuitry including: power distribution, motor controls, AC/DC high voltage, AC/DC low voltage, relay logic and emergency stops.
  • Understanding of wiring and operation of electrical components including: PLCs, VFDs, transformers, power supplies, safety relays, control relays, pilot devices, pushbutton/selector switches, circuit breakers, fuses, phase monitors, contactors and overload relays.
  • Assume collateral duties such as maintaining Consumable inventory.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.
  • Follow all Company Safety Standards and wear applicable PPE

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This work is performed in a panel shop facility which is not be climate controlled in the summer months.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to:
  • Lift up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 70 pounds occasionally
  • Standing for long periods of time,
  • Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling,
  • Climbing ladders as needed


Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate an expert knowledge of blueprint, wiring diagram, and schematic reading competency
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Computer software to include but not limited to: Google Office Suite and/or Microsoft Office Suite
  • Highly proficient in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with:
  • Multi-meter – resistance, current and voltage testing
  • Hand and power tools including but not limited to: drills, jig saws, wireway/din rail cutters, grinders, knockout punches, band saws, and more.
  • Blueprint, wiring diagram, and schematic reading competency

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year Electrical technical degree, military equivalent or equivalent years of related experience preferred and,
  • 3 – 5 years hands-on experience in panel production preferred
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
