Job Description
FIS Water is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 2–3 years of engineering experience and a strong mechanical aptitude to support the design and development of automated packaged process systems. This role combines mechanical and electrical design with industrial controls, allowing engineers to work on complete systems that include pumps, separators, piping, instrumentation, PLC controls, and operator interfaces.
The ideal candidate is eager to learn, enjoys multidisciplinary engineering, and wants to participate in projects from initial design through manufacturing, testing, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of packaged water treatment and fluid handling systems including pumps, separators, piping, valves, and instrumentation.
- Develop mechanical assemblies, fabrication drawings, and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
- Create and update P&IDs, system layouts, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate on the sizing and selection of pumps, motors, actuators, valves, & panels per system requirements.
- Collaborate on design and review of control panels to ensure proper system integration in relation to PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor controls, sensors, and instrumentation.
- Support manufacturing by resolving design issues and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting of filtration units, motors, actuators, etc. while customer is on site.
- Ensure designs comply with company standards and applicable industry codes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 2–3 years of engineering experience with a strong electrical background in industrial equipment, manufacturing, automation, or process systems.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, and drawings).
- Working knowledge of pumps, piping systems, valves, and mechanical equipment.
- Familiarity with PLC-based control systems, industrial instrumentation, sensors, and motor controls.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industrial process equipment, water treatment systems, filtration systems, or pump packages.
- Exposure to PLC programming platforms such as Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 or Siemens TIA Portal.
- Familiarity with HMI software, SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with VFDs, instrumentation, and process control.
- Experience with industrial control panel standards and panel design practices is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards UL 508A, NEC, ISO, etc.
